Typical Ovechkin. Ovechkin knows what he would want when he was a kid if he asked for his favorite player's autograph. He never forgets that.

There was a feature last season about a child in the TO area that was given a special day with the Maple Leafs. He took the morning skate with the Leafs and Blake spent some special time with the little guy.

After leaving the ice, they showed Ovechkin come to the room the family was in to give the kid a stick and some conversation. This was a Toronto promotion/charity gift.

He is that way.

He gave his game used Allstar jersey to a sick man with MS. And autographed it.

I love this guy, Ovechkin is the best thing that happened to the NHL after the lock out.

But he's such a dirty, reckless player that needs to be suspended!

I kid. I kid. Such a great player/guy allround. The league needs more AOs, no question about it. Less Malkins and more Ovechkins.

What a lovely story. I wish the NHL would publish more of these ...... NHL players have to be the nicest, most sincere, humble group of professional athletes around.

Just stumbled on this thread...great story. Ovechkin is why NHL players are the classiest guys in pro sports.

One thing that bothered me is the Malkin/Ovechkin bashing. By all accounts, Crosby is one of the most accommodating guys in the league. Just thought I would add a quick story about Sid's first to Western Canada. Like Ovechkin, he gets it.

"When Sidney Crosby made his first career trip to Western Canada this month, playing to sellouts in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver, he delivered on and off the ice. After Crosby's breathtaking three-point third period in Pittsburgh's 4--2 win over the Oilers, the Penguins arrived in Calgary at 1:35 a.m. in --13 weather. Crosby saw four young fans standing by a fence at the airport holding signs reading WELCOME TO CALGARY SID, WE LOVE YOU. Crosby put his bags on the team bus, walked over to the young fans and talked with them for 10 minutes before he got back on the bus."

Yep, everything I've read says Crosby is all class in non-hockey environments. Good for him and good for the league. It's easier to sell a rivalry, even if it is manufactured, when the two guys involved are good people.
