Penguins - Coyotes

I read an EKLUND rumor that Pens and Yotes could be talking and I thought what could possibly work. I figured out this "semi-minor" deal that could help both teams:

Boucher (UFA '09) + 3rd pick
(GOLIGOSKI ALONE WOULD BE A BETTER OPTION FOR YOTES THOUGH)

for

Lisin (RFA '09)

Boucher would bring more experience to Yotes blueline if they want to stay in the playoff battle. Boucher hasn't performed as good as we hoped he would after that Sydor trade. Pittsburgh would get some cap room for possible deadline trade and talented winger to play with Malkin maybe? Sykora could move to Sid's line.

Talent analysis for Pens fans:

"Lisin is a talented two-way forward with a huge offensive upside and a significant defensive upside. The young forward was more than likely the fastest forward eligible for the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He is fully capable of developing into a top line forward in the NHL. He’s an amazing skater, who’s a good finisher, has a great wrist shot, is very precise and has a deceivingly quick release".

why would phoenix want boucher? he's in the pressbox as soon as the pens get healthy. he's a pretty bad player.

Terrible. Perfect for Pittsburgh, but does absolutely nothing for Phoenix. We can't afford Boucher and have no need for him. Lisin, on the other hand, is cheap, talented, and has HUGE upside. Offense is the issue in Phoenix, not defense. Awful for Phoenix in every way. Would never happen.

If you want to pry away a hugely talented young roster player from a rebuilding team it's going to cost you something that hurts. It can't be done for something you want to be rid of in the first place.

If you really want Lisin, you better be prepared to give up a talented young roster player in return. Think Goligoski. Everyone around here will scoff, but I think that has a lot to do with familiarity, more than anything else. That's besides the point, anyhow. The point is I don't think anything short of a player like Goligoski would get any consideration whatsoever, from Phoenix's end. Even then, I'm not sure they'd say yes. I would guess the odds of them saying no are about as good.

Bad player under Therrien. I agree that he has been in downhill a bit, but who knows if he could play better under Gretzky?

I though of throwing Goligoski first in this proposal, but then all the Pens fans would go angry.

The Coyotes biggest need, other than more money, is scoring wingers so it makes perfect sense Ek would pair them with the Pens as prospective partners.

Horrible deal for Phoenix, Lisin is going to be a great player. They can get more than that for him if they really needed to unload him.

I would argue our biggest need, other than more money, is someone who can make our powerplay less terrible.

Goligoski might be the answer then but he might not be ready to take a whole unit on his shoulders yet.Cotes might have to add a little though(what line has Lisin been playing on for you guys?)

And, another defenseman that can ensure that Hale never sets foot on NHL ice in a Coyotes' uniform ever again.

All of them, same as the rest of the forwards.

Gretzky will scratch Yandle first

Boucher is one of the worst players in the NHL, and Lisin will be a solid second liner.

Not gonna work.

Uhh, we just got Boucher for Darryl Sydor, a player, who by all accounts, should have been waived after every shift this year...I seriously doubt that he (and a pick) could land a player with the potential of Lisin...

Should this trade go through, would it be the biggest difference in player speed in a one for one deal? Boucher's skates are made out of lead and are filled with cement and Lisin is too quick to be seen on TV's that don't have HD...

I think the Pens would have to give up more to get Lisin and I don't know that they'll want to right now.

He's shifted from 1st - 3rd regularly since his callup... It depends on gretzky's mood but his best chemistry has been on 2nd or 3rd lines

Certainly, if pigs flew, Christmas came twice a year and Phoenix' management consist of absolute morons.

Lets hope for the latter, but I am not holding my breath...

That statement is incorrect.

We don't have such thing as a "second" or a "third" line, we sometimes have a fourth or a first, but very rarely.

Either way, start with Goligoski of Letang or Lisin isn't going anywhere. There's no conceivable reason to trade him otherwise.

I like Lisin but I would put Goligoski's value higher and Letang's way higher than Lisin's.

The value may be off, but there's nothing else that the Pens have and would be willing to give up that would be of real interest.
