Stamkos to Ottawa

To Tampa Bay
Ottawa's 1st round pick 2009
Ottawa's 1st round pick 2010 (Conditional: if '09 pick is not top 2)
Ottawa's 1st round pick 2011 (Conditional: if '09 pick is not top 2)

To Ottawa
Steven Stamkos

Note 1: With tonight's Tampa win the Sens are in the Hedman drafting position (2nd overall) assuming the lottery results wouldn't change things.

Note 2: With this trade Tampa has realistic shot at drafting both 1st and 2nd overall this summer.

Then why in the world would you want to trade it away? Hedman>Stamkos IMO.

Not happening. Somehow I don't think the Lightning trade Stamkos for what could just be the #5 pick in '09.

Stamkos is older than Hedman, D men take more years to develop, and we need to become a contender again before Alfredsson retires. Time is of the essence.

If I'm not mistaken, both players are born in '90.

Ottawa would never make this deal. Giving up three potential first-round picks for Stamkos is a massive, massive overpayment and actually hurts any rebuilding process.

alright then what if the conditional picks were based on the '09 being outside the top 2

If the Bolts can get Stammy on the right track and draft Hedman while retaining Vinny, Smitty and Malone, maybe sign a good stay at home defenseman or two, I see a bright moon risin'....

I hear Bill Guerin is available. Who knows - a 1st could nab him. Will the Sens miss out?

best case scenario for TB is

3rd overall 2009
1st overall 2010
1st overall 2011

do the math

isn't that worth a shot?

A bit premature ... how 'bout we wait until he misses an empty net from 5' with 15 seconds left, allowing the opposition to tie it up and win in OT, before we put him in that category!

possibly, but Tampa is going to get a high pick anyways this year! They dont have to get another top pick. Stamkos is having a bad year... all of the Lightning are.
What if Tavares has a bad year next year is he going to be the next Patrick Stefan or Mike Bossy, who he is being compared to now? Stamkos once scored close to 200 goals one year! my god give him a break guys! Tampa may have a better pick than Ottawa anyways this year. Would rather have Stamkos and Schroeder? than Hedman and Schroeder. IMO.

Edmonton is likely to get 1st overall now that Souray,Hemsky,Smid,Stortini,Pisani are all injured and we are already ****** with them
