Eklund(grain of salt): Rangers "extremely interested in Doan"

I know it's eklund and all......but.....

Personally, I think that's the type of player we should be going after...grit....scoring...to the net. We'll need it for the stretch run and especially in the play-offs if we make it.

Wasn't Tom Renney not too long ago quoted as saying that the Rangers would need grit for a long run in the play-offs? Well, there you have it. The question is..what would get it done? I'm thinking one of our starting d-men is on the way out with a prospect from hartford.

According to ek, we have the best offer on the table.

Are they gonna take one of our big contracts? I would do it if that were the case.

edit: Doan has a contract worth 4.55M/yr through the 2011-2012 season. Unless they take one of Redden or Rozsival, its unlikely to happen.

I see absolutely no reason why Doan, who supposedly Gretzky loves, would be traded. Nor do I think the Rangers have anything (other than pieces they should not be considering moving) that would interest Phoenix. They, nor anyone else, is interested in our trash.

Eklund or not--I would love to see Shane Doan on our team. Phoenix will have to take a big contract to make it happen. If the Rangers are truly going after him I wonder what else we would give up.

Not to mention that Phoenix is 20-17 right now and could possibly make a push for the playoffs. Yet they're looking to deal their captain

I watch the Coyotes every night and have had the privlidge of meeting Shane. He is a tremendous person (think Adam Graves) and is having a career year. He is also the captain and steadying force on a very young team. Given the desperation of the Coyotes to make the playoffs and (God willing) win a series, I just can't see them shaking the team to the core during the season and moving Doaner. During the off-season, perhaps. His market value will never be higher than it is right now and the Yotes will need to be moving salary over the next few years to a) stay in business and b) free up space to sign their young players (think getting to the cap floor rather than hitting the cap ceiling) but why screw up a team that is very quietly becoming very dangerous?

This is certainly a sensible analysis, and you might be right as you know them better than I do, but I also just don't see them moving him, he's the closest thing that franchise has to a tradition. Wouldn't you rather find another way to move salary than to move the heart of your team?

The Coyotes are in the playoff hunt, why would they trade Doan?

At $4.5MM, Doan is pretty good value and you are exactly right about him being a tradition. In this less than hockey mad town, he is the one player everyone knows. Jovanoski will almost certainly be moved at some point but he still has a lot of years and dollars to run on his deal. I also don't think they will resign Derek Morris. That of course sets up a converstaion that they need young defenseman since there is nothing much coming in the system.

I don't think so.

Shane Doan is, as someone else mentioned, the Adam Graves of the 'Yotes. Mike Cammelleri, according to Kings fans, is kind of a *****.

IF Doan is moved...this year's first round pick is an automatic going to Phoenix...who knows what else Maloney would want from Sather.

in ehm this worked for me: Rangers trade Scott Gomez, Aaron Voros and 2009 3rd round pick, for Phoenix' Shane Doan and Derek Morris.

.

Typically I would say that Phoenix would not trade Doan, but that franchise is hemoraging money and shedding that contract is something that they will have to seriously look at.

That said, as someone pointed out, financially it doesn't fit unless the Rangers shed some coin themselves.

While I can see Phoenix trading Doan, it's not going to be to the Rangers as they would not move the contract if they were forced to take a similar or larger one back.

Not exactly. Phoenix is just above the salary cap floor right now. The possible bonuses for rookie contract players haven't been earned yet.

i dont want doan unless we give up a big contract of an underperforming player. so getting doan is impossible in that case because nobody wants 7m dollar gomez, 6m dollar redden, 5m dollar rozy, 6m dollar drury.
