Does Carter have a chance to get 61 goals to break Leach's record?

The way Carter is scoring goals (29 goals already- and it's not even the All-Star Break!), I think he has a great chance to join MacLeish, Leach, Kerr, Recchi, and LeClair in the 50-goal club.

But, do you think he could join Reggie Leach as the only Flyers to hit 60?

And, dare I say it, he BREAKS the team record?

Probably not. His pace is pretty high right now, he is bound to cool off. However, he still has the creativity and speed to get it done. I sure hope he can break the record!

Let's hope so, the way he's going he doesn't have to many goalless games in a row! That'll also help the Flyers stay atop the conference

I think it'll be interesting to see if he can hit 60 and not get a hatty.

Carter's on pace for 54 right now. In order for him to get 61, he'd have to get 32 in the next 38 games. That's an awful lot to ask. At the very least, he should get 50. No complaints with that at all. Last 50 goal scorer this team had was Leclair, one of my all time favourites. That's pretty good company to be in.

The question in the topic is a bit dumb formulated.
Does he have the chance? Of course. The season is only half-way over and he could score 32 goals in 40 games. Nothing that makes it impossible.
The question is rather if he will be able to do it. My honest answer is yes, I think he will.

He has 40 game's left not 38. I think he can get 60. Every time I think he can't get better he does. Imagine what he'll be like in a few years.

And with the right numbers, I could have won the lottery.

I don't care much for individual records/numbers, I want to the see the team continue win and hopefully enter the playoffs healthy. That's the #1 priority. If Carter nets 50-60 goals in the process....then that's awesome.

No, he will not. Checking gets tighter as we move towards the playoffs and he's bound to cool off for periods (he just came off a mini slump as it is). While it's fun right now, I wouldn't even bet on him winning the Rocket. However, he has 15 years left in his career to try and do that, so no rush.

I'm thinking no. Players typically see their pace tail off at the end of the season, and you are asking him to pick the pace up. Short of a 5 goal explosion on some night, I doubt he can make it this year.

I do think he'll do it at some point in his career, assuming the NHL continues to try to find ways to open up the game from the clutch and grab 90s.

Im gonna say he wont come close to Leach's 61. Its a different game these days. Back when Leach was playing, goaltenders were not as good, wore less equipment, and defensive players were terrible, as they would slide and dive all the time allowing forwards to go right around them. Now a days its almost impossible to beat a defender one on one. I don't think he will hit 60 ever in his career.

If Carter can get a couple of hat tricks and maybe a 4-goal game, it is possible that he could hit 60.

Right now he is on pace for 56, and if he can continue scoring 2+ goals every few games he could do it.

I think we are all expecting him to slow down and so far he hasn't, which is great!

I'm sure his scoring will drop a bit once Briere comes back.

That doesn't really have to do with anything. That's only if Briere's return affects Carter's line.

factor in he's on pace for 54, and since he plays for the flyers which means he'll probably miss a handful of games due to injury, i'm thinking no

I think he struggles to hit 50. The grind will wear on everyone and it will show. I hope he goes AO though and gets ridiculous. Like 65 goal ridiculous.

Does he have a chance? Yes.

Will he get there? Only if he has an even better second half than the first.

I don't expect him to hit 60. As others have said, 50 would be excellent.

If anybody thinks he'll slow down, they're crazy. He follows up every chance with another chance. I can't believe he doesn't have more goals. I don't know about 61, but I doubt his goal totals will slow at all.

Carter has one of the quickest shots I've ever seen. In all honestly, every time he touches the puck in the zone he's got a chance to rip one.

It's a simple answer really. Yes Jeff Carter has a chance to reach 61 goals this season. At the same time, so does Riley Cote

Its not a matter of chance, its a matter of capitalizing on opportunities, and if Carter can capitalize on those chances then there is a shot.

However the way i see it, this is all a game of chance, and as another poster said, either in this thread or another, if i pick the right numbers im going to win the lottery!

it's almost as if you'd look at it and say "wow he SHOULD have so many more goals than he does" but I think the missed chances like that are typical of all great scorers, it's more about how great he creates chances and less about the misses.

When the lineup gets 100% healthy again it will be interesting to see who he plays with. Hartnell and Lupul looked great with him but I think if we see Giroux there he's got a slight chance of hitting 60.
