MacTavish rips Rob Schremp in press conference

If you go to TSN.ca and click on the "On the Mend" video on the right side you can see it.

In case you're too lazy:

Quote:
I guess every time we call somebody up we've got to explain why it's not Robbie, but the bottom line is it's up to Robbie to be a decent player down there. We all know what he can do, he's got decent hands, he can work a powerplay okay, but he's slow, he's not a physical player, he's soft at this level. There are a lot of things in his game he needs to address before he becomes that player who gets called up. It's getting to the point where you've gotta be honest: he's not helping them particularly down there right now and there's no reason to think he'll be able to come up here and help us.
Wow...how often do you see a coach go off on his own prospect like that? And wasn't he like a PPG player with EDM in his brief call-up?
Is MacT going with an "it worked on Penner, maybe it'll work on Schremp" philosophy here?

Wow, that's just unnecessary. Maybe if it was Schremp who was complaining about never getting the call but for all we know he hasn't been.

This guy is just asking to get canned.

How does that constitute "ripping" him? It was an honest evaluation of a player. If he was ripping him he could have used different words and with a different tone. If you watch the video, you'll know what I mean.

It's one thing to call out a player in the media (Penner, Nilsson), and then afford the player the opportunity to redeem himself. It's quite another to take shots a player not even on the roster.

Nothing MacTavish does surprises me anymore.

Desperate times for him. Lost control of his team and is just throwing stuff at the wall now. I wouldn't be surprised if he became a angry version of Eklund after he gets fired

Agree. It seems like a fair evaluation to me. Schremp has been a bust so far.

I agree. However I think MacT needs to not lash out at the kid just because he didn't like a question he got from the media. It is not like Schremp was the one who asked him the question at the presser.

I can understand his frustration, but Schremp is a third party here, no need for that.

I have never been one of those guys that is constantly advocating for a coaching change but I've had enough of MacT, he really does need to be fired.

What a BS thread. Does anyone have an idea what the question was? I suspect it was about why Robbie wasn't called up and MacT answered it perfectly. He wanted to put an end to it and that answer should do it. Schremp is soft, slow and couldn't check his hat at the door. He's made no commitment to improving his game in the minors which has lead to his benching in back-to-back games in the minors. Seems MacT knows what the situation is and called it perfectly.

Yeah how many other coaches do you see "calling it perfectly" in a press conference like that about their prospects? Do you know what white lies are?

MacT should've said "we felt it wasn't the right time to bring Robbie up" and saved his "honest evaluation" for a 1-on-1 with him. Something like this probably just demoralizes Schremp even more. I'm sure he can't wait to get called up to EDM to play for a coach who thinks he's slow, soft and incapable of playing at an NHL level.

Who was given the opportunity to redeem himself, no?

Again, these comments were unnecessary. Schremp isn't on the Oiler roster, and has no way to prove these comments right or wrong.

The Oilers called up Potulny instead of Schremp, which led to the question about why it wasn't Robbie, and this was the reply.

I am actually kinda happy he did this. I am getting tired of all of this Schremp talk. The guy made one nice play the entire time he was up here (the pass to Pouliot). He then got two secondary assists on great plays by other players, and everyone thinks he is a point per game player.

He is not a player who can contribute at the NHL level. I say trade him and get rid of all the ******** that comes along with him.

Only in Edmonton could you be so awful at your job for eight years and not have to worry about job security because you're best buddies with the boss. This franchise will not accomplish a damn thing with MacTavish and Lowe running the show.. I know Tambellini is the GM, but he's just a puppet.
