Who would you choose to take a penalty shot?

Choose your top 8 candidates for a penalty shot.
but follow these guidelines tho you can combine two to three criteria for one player.
-one must be a defenseman
-one must be under 24 years old
-one must be over 34 years old
-one must be north american
-one must be primarily a playmaker
-two must be darkhorse candidates

Choose any goalie for your team to stop the other team's penalty shots.

Markus Naslund
Ilya Kovalchuk
Pavel Datsyuk
Patrick Marleau

Roberto Luongo

edit: Not in that order necessarily.
edit2: didn't see the "dark horse" thing. Took out Nash and Forsberg. Put in Marleau and Walz.

Oh heavens...let's see...

Defenseman: Mathieu Schneider...he's got a hell of a shot.

Under 24: Henrik Zetterberg or Ilya Kovalchuk...can't decide between them.

Over 34: Brett Hull...he's got a hell of a shot too. He'd smoke it by the goalie.

North American: Hmmm...Martin St. Louis or Steve Yzerman...either one would be a good gamble.

Primarily a playmaker: The easiest one...Pavel Datsyuk. Not a doubt in my mind.

Two darkhorses: Hmmm....Kris Draper and Rick Nash

Goalie: Hmmm...Martin Brodeur or Roberto Luongo

Hrm, maybe it's just me, but I've always considered Brodeur to be average at best at breakaways.......although not sure who else I'd rather have between the pipes. Maybe that fat goalie in the Amstel Light commercials

I'd have to disagree as I would say Brodeur is the best right now at breakaways(Hasek being the absolute best a few years ago). He can do alot of things to disrupt a shooter on a breakaway, like using the poke check. Plus he's a great skater and has various different methods in making saves. Last years playoffs he had some huge stops on breakaways; most notably on Martin St. Louis and Marty Havlat.

Brett one on one against the goalie this year has been absolutely awful to watch....

he's no good one the breakaway, he tried a move and wound up not even getting a shot of...the bench was in tears...
