The NHL should market the Staal brothers like the NFL does with the Manning's

Plus, as mentioned, Payton is actually an OK actor for a football player. The adds are good/funny because of him, it just happens his brother is in a few ads with him. (see the gazillion ads with just Payton)

Call this a homer vote or whatever, but i fail to see why the NHL seems insistent on milking the Crosby marketing play and not marketing the most exciting player in the game, Ovechkin.

The ads over the summer, Crosby, Phaneuf, Kane and Lundqvist, but not Ovechkin. If they are intent on drawing new fans to the sport, who better than the human highlight reel himself.

I think it'd be funny if they did an ad with Ovechkin and Semin, incorporating the standing on each others shoulders to get the soccer ball.

Okay, so here is the commercial...are you ready?

The Staals are attending a bachelor party. They each get wildly drunk and start filtering out into the street and causing a ruckus...

Oh..wait...

I couldn't agree more with the bad timing for commercials, like you say why play them during a hockey game if you're already watching etc. it's obvious new fans won't be drawn in this way.

Staals are not as talented at what they do as Mannings. Especially Payton.

You kidding? Watch Eric's goal celebrations. I don't know Jordan's personality that well, but check out Marc playing Rock Band at Hollweg's apartment or whose ever it was. Now that's an absolute snoozer.

The Kostitsyn's are more marketable IMO.

I'm guessing there's less hockey exposure in Carolina so you hear of him less. Just my uneducated guess.

Also you won't see Ovechkin ads until he can speak understandable english

It's not the "NFL" that is marketing the Mannings. It's corporations and advertising companies that see potential in them. Ad companies have zero idea who the Staals are. The NHL can want to market them all they want, but Coke, Pepsi, McDonalds et al wouldn't know Jordan Staal from Jarrett Stoll.

Like an earlier poster said, it makes sense to market the American players in the league if you are trying to draw in mostly Americans wouldn't you say? Kessel, Kane, Statsny, Parise, etc. Can't go wrong with Ovechkin either, the biggest deal is just playing the commercials on channels that don't have the games.

Would be kinda awkward seeing Andrei and Sergei doing ads when they barely give any interview...

Why play NHL commercials on a channel showing an NHL game?

Show commercials for the NHL on regular channels where they don't play hockey games.
I've been seeing commercials for Pens/ Rags while watching NCIS and House on USA recently. They're doing more then they used to.

Just a hunch but marketing Sid, Alex and Malkin makes more sens.

No, the Staals aren't as important to hockey as the Mannings' are to football.

Why couldn't the non English speakers do commercials in their native language? It can't be too hard to add subtitles.

Ovie wouldn't even have to speak, he's hilarity on wheels. And also, if he says a word or two, I'm pretty sure hearing some accent wouldn't kill the viewing audience.

NHL oddly enough advertises through NBC on the TVs in Walmart all the time, it's a little strange.

The NHL does a bad job marketing in general. Just ask Avery.

No they should market the Sedin twins like that. They could even have them become siamese where they're skating on just one body or something.

In a perfect world, all NHL commercials would have Datsyuk talking.
