He deserves a shot now. The guy is the leading phantoms scorer. I was always gutted when we let potulny go. If it wasn't for our strength in depth at C he would be with the big club
Unfortunatly Potulny was a victim of our tremendous depth at Center. I think Potulny is an NHL player, and it sucks he wont be here in Philly, but i also like Syvret as a depth guy for us.
i remember potulny being a center-only player. did we ever try moving him to wing? he would certainly have gotten a bigger chance if he had played the wing.
syvret looks great statswise, and if jones is moved could find a spot on the roster next year.
exactly, thats why i said a depth guy. There is no way he cracks top 6 unless homer doenst resign vaananen (hed be dumb not to) Im assuming Jones is out of here soon so I see the defensive depth chart like this:

I think that is a little harsh.....He was one of the few decent players in a dreadful year for us, never got a chance otherwise.
I like Potulny as well and liked what I saw from him here. He definitely has the knack for scoring....if he improved his skating and defensive play from his time here I think he will have a career in the NHL as a third liner, but I certainly dont see him being anywhere near a top 6 guy.
Although in hindsight, I kinda wish we still had him around this year with all the injuries to our forwards.
Potulny is a victim of not being talented enough to be an impact player in the NHL.
What is your definition of impact player???? I am guessing it is no where near mine which would make this a ridiculous statement. Not all players in the NHL are "impact" players.

I just don't get the love for prospects that come up to the NHL for a few games and manage to not **** the bed. It doesn't make them special to me. People were all over Nodl's **** earlier this season...why? Because he didn't **** the bed. He didn't do anything particularly amazing, either. Dude can't score to save his life.
Potulny didn't **** the bed when he briefly played for the Flyers, but it's not like he was some uber prospect that we have to keep track of for the rest of his career, either. I don't know, I just didn't see anything worth caring about. Prospects come and go.

Come on Storm, I expect a little more common sense from you....not in regards to Potulny, but in regards to Nodl. I dont see the guy ever becoming a 30+ goal scorer in the NHL but to say someone cant score after playing 26 games in the NHL, without even having any experience in the AHL is a little ridiculous. The guy needs a chance. He really needs to play a full season or two in the AHL before we know what he can/might become in the NHL.
As for Potulny, I dont recall anyone saying he was anything special, I know I certainly didnt....but he certainly has the skill to become a third liner in the NHL if he improved his skating, defensive play and durability (which has been his biggest issue) In college he was basically all offense.
Yes, he came in the NHL and didnt suck as you say, but that was an accomplishment that year....Not to mention the fact that he scored 7 goals in 35 games as a rookie and was a plus player on a team that had exactly 3 other + players in their top line Gagne/Forsberg/Knuble and they were only a +2
EDIT: Upshall was a +4 as well, but didnt come until the end of the season
Good for him. Always liked the guy for some reason. Edmonton seems to be gathering lots of guys I like. Might have to start pulling for them in the west.

What does common sense have to do with it? I can't help it if I don't get excited over a prospect unless I see something worth getting excited over. Potulny and Nodl were college players so I hadn't seen them. They don't put the AHL on tv here. All I have is the NHL. I didn't see anything to get excited over with either player.
I'm not saying they're awful, but the future of our team doesn't hinge on their success, either. I wasn't sad when Potulny was traded and I wouldn't be sad if Nodl was traded. They could turn out to be decent NHLers, but I fail to see what everyone gets excited about. They're just mid-level prospects that may or may not turn out. Forgive my lack of enthusiasm.

Its not your opinion I am questioning, I would hardly say I am excited over either of them.....and the future of our team sure doesnt hinge on them at all.....just the fact that you make it sound like Nodl is a complete waste of a pick and has no offensive ability at all based on 20-30 games in the NHL.....Again, if he had played a full season in the AHL and then came up and did absolutely nothing I would agree, but he came right from college (where he was more than PPG) and came basically right into the NHL. I dont think we can judge him either way for another season or two. If anything, one thing that I have seen is the guy is already one of the best passers on the team. If he can develop the hockey sense to go with that, he could be very effective.
How many players come and do absolutely nothing for a season or two and become top 6 players in the NHL? I am sure there are more than a few.
