Schneider has negative value, either you add in something or take this nonsense elsewhere.

You have to think, assuming there is any truth to this, that Schneider wouldn't be the only thing going the Habs way.

But Higgins would be a great pickup for Atlanta. Schneids would help the Habs, too.

Schneider for Higgins not unless it is part of a bigger package, Gainey is a smart GM, I could understand this rumour if it was someone like a Doug Mclean making the deal but not Bob

Schneider isn't going anywhere unless Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson is involved. And pancakes.

But really, as good as Schneider can be down the stretch it would have to be Schneider+ to get Higgins, especially knowing how badly Waddell wanted him back for Hossa.

Speculation:

Schneider+Armstrong
Schneider+Oystrick
Schneider+Party Hats

The trade is possible, but like has already been stated, would definitely be Schneider+

No way this deal happens 1 for 1 and Atlanta isn't trading draft picks so it would have to be a pretty good roster player along with Schneider for Higgins.

If Gainey did this deal one for one, I'd want him fired immediately. He would obviously not be playing with a full deck. I can understand him having interest in Schneider, but that would be a ridiculously stupid price to pay.

If Roberts and Corson could play on the same team and be all smiles together at their joint press conference just about any two players could play on the same team. I think their are only two situations where it wouldn't work; Avery and Brodeur, Bertuzzi and Moore.

Yes, this deal is all but done. Everything except the negociating, the contact made by either team, the terms...it's all done, except for all that.

When Montreal were screwed in a trade (e.g. Ribeiro for Niinima), it's generally because they were in a difficult situation (Ribeiro not being welcomed anymore in the organisation, combined with the urgent need of a NHL-ready defenseman). When Gainey isn't pressured, he generally ends up doing good enough (the Bonk + Huet trade). But trades are certainly not his forte, I admit.

If the Canadiens do trade for Lecavalier they will need to add some lower cost player to fill the gaps. I don't think Schneider would be a good addition based on his salary, they should be looking into getting Enstrom from Atlanta instead. He's cheaper and has an upside,

Enstrom has a multi-year extention for around $3-4 million a year that kicks in next year.

Higgins for Schneider?!? That's a giant no dice. The only way that Gainey should consider this, is if it includes a swapping of first round picks. I'm sure Atlanta would love to do that!

I got as far as "smart general manager" before collapsing into laughter, Mike Ribero for Janne Niinimaa says hello

Correct me if I'm wrong here but didn't Atlanta get Schieder off of waivers and if so wouldn't any team that put a claim on him but was after Atlanta in order get a shot at him before he could be traded?

He passed through waivers earlier in the season and Atlanta did not claim him. Later Atlanta traded for him, but the best reason I can come up with is the fact that they could send some salary back the other way.
