Pay Per Shift: Most & Least Deserving

by now you have heard it.
how the big 3 autoworkers are overpaid per hour. per shift. and so on.
compared to the imports.

but what about ice hockey workers.
are some guys overpaid per shift/per minute compared to others guys.
especially on your team.

for the sake of example. take some Pengooins.

using 82 games per year.
using current TOI (Time on Ice Figures).
extrapolating to one shift being 60 seconds.

S Crosby
9,000,000 per annum
$109,756 per game @22.16 TOI = $4,988 per minute

M Satan
3,500,000 per annum
$42,683 per game @16.44 TOI = $2,596 per minute

P Dupuis
1,400,000 per annum
$17,073 per game @14.52 TOI = $1,175 per minute

M Cook
1,200,000 per annum
$14,634 per game @13.15 TOI = $1,115 per minute

E Godard
725,000 per annum
$8,841 per game @4.38 TOI = $2,018 per minute

interesting questions are raised?

is Cook really worth less per shift than Satan?
is Godard worth double per shift than Dupuis?
etc.

so.

who on your team is the most and/or least deserving of the pay per shift?

It depresses me that a kid my age makes $5000 in a minute.

Back to flipping burgers for 100$ a day

I like this topic but its tough to analyse, because there are so many variables affecting the outcome.

For example, minimum salary restrictions will overstate the pay of marginal players, who get few minutes of ice time. Salary cap on the other hand means that team may not be able to pay the full worth to their superstars.

Some players bring leadership skills that don't necessarily translate to the ice time they get, etc.

Good topic though!

I have the same feeling man.

but.. flipping burgers for 100$ a day ? Your boss is generous.

I used to do this job as a kid, it's usually minimum wage for young fast food cooks lol.

A better stat to look at would be points per dollar.

Hasn't somebody done that before?

I know someone linked a site which showed the five most paid players who haven't performed points wise.

Yeah that has been done, but it is not neccessarily a better stat as most players bring much more to the table than points.

I think $$$ per minute is actually a descent way to break it down. You can see what a player is making relative to his teamates and then look at other stats to determine if it is worth it. Better method to compare scorers vs checkers than points IMO

Parise is a steal but Zetterberg at 2.9 is probably the biggest steal in the league. Brodeur's contract is a pretty big bargain as well.

I believe players are paid per diem, and not per compositus, aren't they?
