Im a huge Habs fan and even I can admit that all the centers named in my proposal are better than any in the Habs roster...
We are going for Lecavalier not because we need help at center, but because he's a superstar and an upgrade over what we have. He's the player we are looking for since Lafleur is gone.

Right now, we don't need help at center. Everyone is playing well, and some are even overachieving! I do agree that we'll need to think about our future pretty soon to replace the old vets, but right now, we are fine.

You are mixing things up right now...meditate about it

Lang is playing great and Hamrlik is worth every penny of his 5.5 million contract! And yeah, if the Rangers will be looking to shed some salary in a near future, Gomez will be interesting for the Habs!

Sorry. I was pretty sure Marleau would be UFA this year.

Well there we go. Koivu (A few teams will be interested), Sedin (probably will stay in Van) and Sundin (seriously doubt he will play for Habs and face Toronto so many times during the season). Not too much.

Trade for LeCavalier is more of a pipe dream. Year after year Habs fans think LeCavalier is coming but he does not. Does not mean it is impossible to trade for him.
Has Saku Koivu ever expressed interest in playing with his brother in the NHL? Not really. Has he expressed interest in staying with Montreal, and winning here? Absolutely.

Saku will stay with the Habs, mark my words. He's the team captain and he loves it here. He had a chance to become a UFA already and chose to stay. I think that there is genuine interest from both sides to get a contract signed, just like Sakic did over and over in Colorado.

So bottom line is the Habs don't NEED another center this year. They can always trade some of their depth on the wing for a center eventually if need be.

I don't mind about getting a better center.

But we have too many center... Let's trade Koivu once it for all.

You are an idiot !!!

We have too many center ...
So let's just trade our better one...
Not to mention that he's our captain for 10 years.
He wants to finnish his career here.
He wants to win it here !
And he has a no trade clause.

you are so bright and visionary my friend !

NO way Phoenix gives up Michalek in that deal. Especially if Plekanec and Higgins are coming back for him and Olli.

It will take Plekanec + Komisarek for me to even think of trading our #1 center signed long term at cap hit of 4M per, especially in division.
You wouldn't trade Derek Roy for Plekanec + Komisarek? LOL

2 years ago Koivu scored over 75pts and was minus 22. Sure, his contract was different but so was the cap. Wrong? Right?
I think this years UFA market is going to be the most interesting yet. With the failing economy, and the possibility of the Cap falling the next year, who really knows what is going to happen. Personally, I think that teams budget's are going to come into play much more than before, rather than teams Cap space.

The Centers that are available for trade might be:
-Lecavalier
-Jokinen
-Roy
-Briere
-possible Spezza

Who off this list is obtainable?

possible offers:

1) For Lecavalier:
the teams pending offer of course is this...Plekanec, Higgins, Subban, and a hand full of picks...

But my offer is this:
Plekanec, Higgins, Subban, 2 1sts, and O'Byrne, for Lecavalier, and Ranger...Gives Montreal the defence they need too

2) For Jokinen:
Plekanec and Higgins(maybe picks) for Jokinen and Michalek...again gets us defensive help too

3) For Roy:
Higgins and draft picks for Roy

4) For Briere:
Plekanec, Higgins, and 2 1sts for Briere and NHL ready defencmen(perferable Vaananen or Coburn)

5) And For Spezza:
Ottawa needs a Goalie so how about:
Higgins, Plekanec, Halak, picks for Spezza and Auld or Gerber

Thoughts???
any chance on any of them???
any counters???
You're willing to offer almost as much for Briere as you are for Lecavalier.....???

Besides, why the hell would you want Briere and his bloated contract now??

Briere would be the Habs best centerman. As a Flyer fan, I don't want Briere traded, he is a proven playoff guy, and I certainly don't want him traded to a team in the Eastern Conference.

You guys can keep him. Not worth the money IMO and he represents something with already have in spades...small non physical gifted forwards...
