The difference in the team's tempo when when Grossman was on the ice compared to Sydor was dramatic against the Wings tonight.

Grossman was attacking the puck at mid-ice and springing rushes, whereas Sydor was playing defense on his heels - sliding back and lunging helplessly in his own zone.

I think his sluggishness and decaying defensive skill was less noticeable in the Atlantic Division. He looks like a dead duck in the West.

Is having a terrible, awful, no-good, very-bad season?

I feel for the guy in a way. He's probably doing everything he's done in the past, but his physical ability is no longer there to make up for it with speed. He's always been a bit of a boneheaded turnover machine, but his speed and his ability to pass made up for it.

Now, without the speed and without the same zip on the past, he's just a liability.

Haha i was thinking of making the same thread.

It's amazing how many post in tonight's GDT that were relative to sydor sucking.

This thread should be sticky.

Is it wrong that the first thing I thought of was for someone to call Heatley and take Sydor for a drive?

I watched the last game against Detroit (great, great win btw) and Sydor was the only negative.

I would play Fistric or Janik over him at this point.

Not sure how he is playing recently, but I know he's had at least one injury since being traded.

I believe at least two injuries. Man Sydor sucks. Hard. In every single zone.

I believe Boucher's injuries are not new, just reaggrivations of old ones he had bothering him here. Pittsburgh ain't saying.

He's scored... three goals there? Other that than, he's played basically like he did here. Pretty ineffective but not a complete liability.

Maybe a little too soon. I knows it been more than a few years, but .

I understand the direction you were going though.

Travel back to the 1920's and give him the influenza epidemic? I don't know if that's the right decade, I'm too lazy to check.

1918 for the Great Influenza. The bug's lethality is unfathomable, an estimated 20 million people died from it. Would definitely do the job.

I love how every goal against has become all sydor's fault. Just think, if we replaced him with Janik we'd pitch shutouts every game.

I don't think that every goal is Sydor's fault, but to have him matched up against Datsyuk is just idiotic, not only are the respective skill sets (offensive vs. defensive) not in the same time zone they aren't even in the same universe.

Also as demonstrated by the Phoenix game pitching shutouts still doesn't mean we win

Janik isn't a save all, for me the two are pretty much equivalent in skill it is just Sydor has had more opportunities to screw up and because Janik is younger he isn't quite as rusty at the hinges. The biggest thing Sydor has contributed (IMHO) is to shift our focus from griping about Niskanen to griping about Sydor.

Who said every goal was his fault? He's a faulty defensemen at best now a days.

Much rather have Fistric in the line up than him. At least he is a young guy who can improve.

A traffic cone would have defended better against Datsyuk on those two plays last night.

You talking about Hatcher or Matvichuk?

Then that's more of the fault of the coaches than Sydor, wouldn't you say?

absolutely

The Datsyuk plays exposed Sydor's ineptitude but it was Tips fault for playing Sydor against him.

I still don't think Syd's play has been as bad as all that, but man he did get shook out of his boots on that play with Datsyuk. And like Razor said, he should know better than to chase the puck against a skater like Datsyuk.

I agree he looks worst in transition. Seems like once play is in the zone he is fine, but his play in the neutral zone is bad.

I thought the play where Datsyuk passed to Holmstrom was bad coverage by Sydor, but I'm pretty sure Datsyuk's goal was scored when Niskanen didn't play him well.
