Every great sport needs a rivalry among great players. I hope it's Geno & Sid vs Ovy & Semin for the rest of their careers.

It's good for the NHL

Definitely. A healthy rivalry. Keep the cheap shots and things of that nature out of it and it should be a lot of fun.

It's funny to see how Pens and Caps fans react to the growing animosity between those two.

Especially Pens fans, because if you ask around, most Pens fans actually like Ovechkin and acknowledge that he is in the same category as Sid and Geno. Rival or not, Ovy's game is captivating and endearing to anyone who watches him play.

Any hockey fan who doesn't acknowledge Ovy's talent or entertainment value is either stupid or ignorant.

But too many fans (and Penguin players, evidently) are content to give him carte blanche because he's good and cute n' cuddwy. That's not how it should work.

Thats a GREAT Ovechkin interview...i love how he doesnt hold anything back...calls ruutu a rat and the dirtiest nhl player, etc.

And the key part...

Staying with the subject, could you talk about your relationship with Malkin? There are rumors of all but a war between you two.

"No, there is no war and everything that was between us is in the past. I just think that he was wrong in acting like he did. He said things that shouldn't have been said. I won't go into it in detail."

Do you mean your confrontation with his agent Ushakov? Malkin's words in the media that the fight indeed took place?

"Yes, I won't go further into it. He shouldn't have said it."

If you and Malkin ever got into a fight on the ice - who would win?

"Whoever landed the first punch. But fighting is not my calling. And really, I don't see any rivalry between myself and Malkin. Or between myself and Crosby. And now they are adding Semin to our threesome too. There is nothing of that sort: we just play, get our points, someone is in front, someone is second... Of course, a headline like "Ovechkin Versus Malkin" catches the eye, but I don't see any reason to pour gasoline onto the fire."

Is this why you offended Miss Virginia after one of the home games, refusing to have a picture taken with her?

"Ah, it's nothing. I didn't even see her. I just heard someone saying something to me about a Miss Virginia, so I said that our girls are better and left."
He is quite the character.

Malkin is honest in that something happened, Ovechkin is hiding.

Yeah, and when a guy that usually doesn't hold anything back is holding something back I want to know what it is!

It has to be about a girl.

Maybe Ovechkin is jealous of Malkin. Geno's girlfriend is hot (and I'm a girl.. even I know when she's hot) and she's a couple years older than him, so she's hot WITH experience.

I dunno. I just want to see Malkin hit Ovechkin epically again.

One word: Godard.

If there's another attempt at a dirty hit, he should TCB. Throw em down and start swinging regardless of whether Ovy throws down too. Rip his helmet off and pound the crap out of him. Half the point of what Ovy is doing is to get inside Malkin's head and take him off his game. Geno should dish out what he can if there's some chippyness but no need to get into a battle of flying hits. Let the enforcer do his job.

I just hate the way he leaves his feet to hit, hits from behind, and then it's defended when fans call it "passion for the game". He's a hell of a hockey player, but he has a very nasty side to him.

On top of that, he's an archenemy to the franchise, and like Crosby is to Caps fans, he's EASY to hate if you're not on his side.
Yeah, God forbid a fantastic hockey player renowned for his scoring prowess actually play a physical and gritty game. There's no place for THAT in hockey!

Your comments weren't a "bit" strong, they were inexcusable. I hope a 6'3 244 pound defenseman checks you into the boards on your way to work.

If someone on our team ended him or his season with a bone crushing cheapshot, it would be so right. After the crap he's been trying to pull on Malkin since last season, as well as several other cheapshots on Briere and Brown, he'd deserve it.

I don't mean a Bertuzzi type thing, that's always uncalled for, but just an aerial hit from behind or something like what OV always does.

Taste of his own medicine of course.

Now, here come the Caps fans calling for me to be banned.
You're dead right, it doesn't sound classy, but it's about typical of you, you're hardly the poster boy for objective critcism.

Ovechkin is the most exciting player in the league, and very hockey fan friendly. I wish he was a Penguin.

I do believe based on some of his other tussles with Ferrence, etc. that Sid would kick the sh^t out of Semin, and in light of his earlier comments, it would be most appropriate as well. The best of all worlds: Pens win, Ovy takes a run at Geno and misses, separating his shoulder on the boards, and Sid bloodies Semin's nose.
