I just want some the Caps to show some heart and pride. They did it a-plenty earlier in the season, but they've lost it lately.

Why was this team playing better with all the AHL call ups and a half healthy roster?

Before all these guys returned from injury, we were climbing up in the standings and our powerplay was explosive and during that stretch was the best in the entire NHL. I hope things start to click again for them tonight against Pittsburgh or I'll be slightly worried for the game this Saturday against the Bruins. When the team was mostly healthy early in the year, Ovechkin wasn't producing as much as he was when the team was down and out but were still winning games. Semin was scoring at a ridiculous pace and things were clicking overall.

I really think the lines need to be changed up. Fedorov looks a bit slow out there, but hopefully he gets back in the groove soon. This will be his first back to back game in a while, so I say give him less ice time on a 3rd line.

Ovechkin - Backstrom - Kozlov
Flash - Nylander - Semin
Laich - Fedorov - Fehr
Brashear - Steckel - Clark

Give Bradley a rest. We don't "need" him for this game. Give Fehr a shot again.

Hopefully Gordon and Poti get healthy soon. I think the lineup misses these two guys.

I dunno....maybe a blowout loss will force Makfi into making a move or two some of us are waiting for.

I think the reason is simple and human nature. The callups were giving it all they could because it was there shot and the regulars still in the lineup were pulling as hard as they could to pick up the slack from what the callups couldnt do.

When the regulars returned to the lineup its human nature for the regulars to take a breath because the calvary has arrived. Meantime the injuried players are still trying to find their game legs again. The result is a downturn in productivity.

I know it seems like Fehr is my whipping post, but one of the players that got an upgrade in NHL opportunity during all the injuries was Fehr. In his past 15 games he has 1g and 2a. Bradley, meanwhile, 1g and 3a in same period. Seems to me the extra ice and pp time that Fehr gets is wasted on Fehr.

I am not entirely sure that the Caps don't need some of that call up hunger and energy and might be better off giving any game action that Fehr might get to Chris Bourque.

Force McPhee and who else exactly? Since there are ZERO trades happening why would you think McPhee is sitting on something good?

It might be possible for McPhee to force a deal. Something we would all hate. Massively overpay for something. Thats not what you are suggesting. Right?

I agree. There are few trades to be made right now. It's not a lack of urgency on one or a few GMs' part. It's just nearly impossible for two clubs to improve their teams while exchanging exactly the same amount of salary. When so many teams are about $500K under the cap, that's what teams need... that, or ideally shedding some payroll.

As for a contract like that of Nylander? Well, nothing until summer at the earliest, I expect.

I predict a Caps win, in a close one.

If they can't get up for this game, like they coasted in last game, then something is wrong.

I'm nervous that a few players will try to do too much.

But if there has ever been a must win game in January, this is it.

I wonder who will start in goal. Last nights game reminded exactly of the game against the Flyers when we lost 7-1. Dominated the first period and completely outshot the other team yet trailed at the end of the period.

I think the Capitals can't afford to have similar outcome against the Penguins on the road or things will get ugly. I wish BB started BJ last night and Theodore tonight. Theodore had a history of some bad performances vs the Oilers and last night wasn't much different, even though a couple of those goals weren't his fault.

I'm not happy with the upcoming win only.

I want Ovechkin physical domination over Crosby and Malkin.

Nope...not overpaying for anything.

I'd rather see him get flat out ***** in a deal involving Nylander more than anything. Getting that cap space and getting any other players in the line up that give a damn are the two things that would make me happy. The odds are slim for it happening...but a blow out loss might increase those slim odds.

Oh...and about your Fehr depression....I'd rather see him out there working his ass off, not scoring goals, compared to watching Nylander or Clark float around and not score goals either.

Cold streaks suck, but I'd rather go through this now than in May. Right the ship quickly Bruce!

hmm...Nylander and Osala to Toronto for a 3rd round pick. How's that?

Maybe I havent been watching correctly or reading these board right, but it seems to me that the concensus is that Clark has not been floating. To the contrary. Clark has scored more recently than Fehr has or am I wrong?

There's likely no way we can move Nylander and get "*****" in the deal without having to take on a similarly bad contract in return. That's the issue here, GMGM can't just force a move that will net us cap space (short of waiving someone you wouldn't want to waive).

One thing I was thinking of, I read in an article recently that the PA was expected to extend the CBA during the all-star break. Wouldn't that put the bonus cushion back into effect? If so, Backstrom and Alzner both give us cap relief and, barring a Pothier comeback, our crunch is mitigated greatly. They may just keep Poti on LTIR (it sounds like that wouldn't be a stretch for his recovery time anyways) until the break to see if that happens without being forced into a move they can't/won't/don't want to make.
