I wouldn't give up Komisarek, Plekanec, Subban, and a 2nd for Lecavalier, but some Habs fans would. The bottom line for the Habs in any Lecavalier trade scenario, however, is that the team is already perhaps a bit thin on D, they couldn't trade one of their top guys without getting somebody back. (Which is of course why Ranger's name started popping up even in the earliest reports, probably).

Pitt wouldn't touch this deal with a 50 foot pole.

Dallas would be very, very foolish to make this deal.

It'd make us worse this season both on the blueline and up front, and take away our first rounder. Not good.

Braking down the trade proposal into small bites ...

Pittsburgh trades Whitney for Komisarek. Penguins say no; not bad in value, except that Komisarek is UFA after this season while Whitney is signed for 4 more years.

Pittsburgh trades Staal and 1st 2009 for St. Louis. Penguins say NO; St. Louis is a great player, but he's too old for them and too expensive.

Montreal trades Subban, Plekanec, 2nd 2009, and Whitney for Lecavalier. I'll let the Habs and Lightning fans discuss this one; though I'd say this one slightly favours Montreal.

Actually his proposal added in Pominville and another decent prospect too. This is a huge NO from me.

Pominville has an 80 point season already in just 3 seasons. Lecavalier has just 2 seasons of 80+ points in 10 seasons. He's had 100+ points just one time. So he's not really a 100 pt. player. Pommer is also way better defensively.

This is gross overpayment. Take out Pommer and add in Stafford and a first rounder in 2010. And we'd need to free up cap room so Hecht would have to go the other way too probably.

My proposal:

To Tampa Bay:

Pomniville, Ennis, Tallinder, Weber, 1st in 09

To Buffalo:

Vinny L

Basically, tampa can have anyone they want outside of Vanek, Roy, Miller, and Myers. Pomniville is probably a bit too similar to St. Louis, so perhaps Stafford would be of more interest. Either way, take your pick tampa.

If a deal like this did happen, it would have to wait until the summer because Pominville's extension doesn't kick in until next season, and making the move now would put the Sabres over the cap.

With that said, I honestly don't know whether this is overpayment or underpayment for Vinny. Thoughts?
From a Buffalo stand point, I will pass. I don't want Lecavalier at all. I do not want to deal with his attitude and him trying to always run the team.

Not to mention, he has not helped this team as of recent and his point totals are way down. He is not worth Pominville, Myers and a 1st let alone Adams in my opinion but that is just me.

Oh, I thought you were trading for Lecavalier to play goal. You are right though, four players out of 22 really scares me. ESPECIALLY when those four players account for almost $28 million of your payroll.

So does ottawa even have enough salary space to get a goalie capable of stopping the puck and 17 other players????

Goaltending is not the problem anymore. Brian Elliott has arrived. Trust me Biron is not much better. Your team, philly, doesn;t have a great history of goaltending either. Pelle Lindbergh was the last great one that played for the Flyers. Gerber is in the minors and will be gone next year.

and what does how bad biron is have to do with having enough salary space to fill a roster capable of defending the opposition?
