Yeah! Another Avery thread.

I assume he's still in rehab/anger management as far away from Turco and Modano as possible so they can be "men".

The only news lately was the NY media and fans saying the Rangers need Avery. People assume that if that happens, Dallas would have to take a bad contract back. I think it's more likely, if someone actually does want him, that he will be claimed on re-entry after he takes care of his "problems".

Otherwise, some team will give him a league minimum contract after Dallas buys him out. Avery may also be eligible for a contract with bonuses, but Iím not sure. I know there is an exemption for injuries, but Iím not sure if there is one for being a bad teammate.

Honstely this Avery thing is getting to me, we are paying him to sit on his ass and we need to figure out what is going to happen to him. Does anyone have an idea or heard anything that we have no clue about????

From the Post:

Quote:
Avery was dumped by the Dallas Stars last month after he made a nasty comment about his ex, Elisha Cuthbert. He tried to make up for lost time at Bungalow 8, flirting with women and hanging with former teammates Scott Gomez, Chris Drury, Nigel Dawes and Marcus Nasland.
He's still friendly with his former Ranger teammates. Hell, he's hanging out with Naslund after trashing him in the media this summer.

Maybe there's hope New York will take him off re-entry waivers.

Kings' GM Dean Lombardi in the new SI article on Avery:

Quote:
Brett Hull criticized us when we traded Sean, saying our team was bad for Sean and bad for the game. Freedom of expression. How does he like it today? They spent $15.5 million to protect the right of free speech. Adams and Jefferson would be proud.
Damn. Carrying a tiny grudge?

I don't know, but something beat the Stars twice this year.

I see nothing wrong with Lombardi saying what he said. Hull opened his mouth and then it comes back to bite him square on the ass. Lombardi's calling it like it is.

Except that Hull was a commentator paid to give opinions on NBC and Lombardi is a fellow GM.

Who cares, really? The Stars aren't paying $15.5 million for free speech, so Lombardi's argument is incredibly stupid to begin with.

So you're saying that Hull can say what he wants but Lombardi can't, regardless of position? I know they are GM's now but really, who cares. They are entitled to give their opinions.

I'm just saying it's not particularly professional for a GM to publicly rip another team's personnel decisions. Not that we haven't seen it happen frequently, i.e. Burke/Lowe.

What Avery is doing currently or the Stars future with him? On the former, who really cares? On the latter, there is no future between Avery and the Stars.

My guess is they will buy out his contract at the end of the year, I think that is stupid and they should just trade him

They would if someone would take him. However, to do so they would either have to take in a bad contract or add picks just to sell him away. It's much easier to buy him out and take the 1.3(?) mil cap hit.

Yeah I think they will buy him out as well or hold him this year and send him to the minors next year when we have our affiliate back. But then do they really want him around the young guys? The problem with trading him is you would have to take someone else's bad contract in return and most likely for longer than Avery's contract. And considering Avery's contract is bad and he is bad for a team we would most likely be taking on a worse contract and having to include depth players (i.e. Redden). Buy him out and you are done with it, granted with a cap hit, but don't really see any solution to that one.

Hold out hope for NY to miss him and take him on re-entry.

Best case scenario hands down. Will it happen? That would go against the direction of this season.

Speaking of Avery, a favorite topic around these parts, did anyone else find it strange Heika blamed Avery for the majority of his mid-season reports? I realize the guy wasn't liked by at least some of the Stars players, but to blame anything and everything on the guy is just flat out dumb.

If they send him to the minors they will still have to pay him the full amount of money that his contract states because Brett Hull signed him to a guarantee contract

They should just trade him at the deadline back to the rangers and let them deal

they would love to trade him, nobody wants him. Unless we take a terrible contract or give up picks no team will take him.
