Vinny L to The Bruins

Rumors in Boston that the Bruins may be interested in trading for Vinny, the question is at what cost and can they afford his salary? The Bruins have alot of young prospects (excluding David Krecji), throw in Manny Ferandez and Kessel.

I would do that in a second even throw in a pick.

Unless and until there's an actual (and reputable) rumour about this possibility, this thread is closed.

Rumour: Vinny Lecavalier to Kansas City to jumpstart their almost-maybe franchise, he will most likely be the leading scorer in the not-really-there hockey league (conveniently also abbreviated as the NHL).

Why would Tampa want Fernandez?

Boston wouldn't touch Vinny... Unless we get a ridiculous steal... Even then, I can't see them taking his contract length. Great player, but Boston doesn't need him.

Yeah I agree. Why would Boston mess with the good chemistry they have? Just because Sturm's done for the year? Hardly a reason to trade away Kessel and Krejci who are currently bargain value.
I'm sure Boston will kick the proverbial tire but nothing will come of it, I'm sure.

Am i wrong, or did Boston not trade Thorton in order to clear cap space for Chara? Why would they now bring in a guy making more than Thorton over 3 times the length of what he signed for?

Personally, as a Bruins fan, I can't see it happening. The one position Boston is deep at is center. The Bruins could really use a LW (with Sturm going down for the season) or a top-4 puck moving defenseman, but not another center.
This really doesn't make a ton of sense.

If it ain't broke...

Completely ignoring the cap situation of either team, if I'm Tampa, another player is probably going with VL (Recchi? Malone?)
Coming back, one of Kessel/Krecji + Lucic + Wideman.
If I'm Boston, I tell Tampa, thanks but no thanks.

Vinny as a Bruin would be fantastic for Habs fans!

As a conspiracy theory, it does sound rather convenient that Boston would get mentioned at some point, if one was trying to extract additional assets from the Habs. Considering how good the B's are and how much additional cap pressure they have to make such a deal otherwise seem like a bizarre fit.

I'd have a hard time imagining a team will have more motivation to snuggle up to Vinny's 11-year contract than the Habs would, but who knows, there are always differences of opinion on player valuation that might make another team's offer seem more attractive.

Why would Boston ruin the chemistry of their team by picking up Lecav at this point in time if they are going to have to give up at least 2 or 3 current roster players?

The only way Boston has cap space for this for this season is if Bergeron is done for the year - and even then, it's cutting things close. However, let's pretend the Bruins could put Lecavalier on their roster for this year. They've already got almost $46.6 million tied up in 16 players [including Tuukka Rask, not including Peter Schaefer, including Glen Murray's buyout] - with Kessel, Krejci, Lashoff and Hunwick as RFA's, and needing another goalie. Lecavalier would push them to over $54.3 million for 17 players [unless someone in that group of 16 that's signed for '09-10 is going the other way] ... and with a cap that probably will be close to this season's $56.7 million, that's not a lot of space with which to fill out a roster - especially if one of the four RFA's mentioned above sees an offer sheet and/or gets a significant bump in their salary.

Sorry, but I don't see how it happens unless a couple of major pieces of the current roster [making big $] get dealt in return.

The rumor is on at least 3 different sites so it has to be true.

I bet Ek has 2 magic 8 balls, one with teams in it, then one with players in it.
Each morning he gets up shakes each ball a couple of times and that my friends are where his rumors come from.

chemistry can thrump the cards for a year or two, but in the end, adding a player like vinny can't be a bad thing.
