Several weeks ago I heard an interview with the ice guy for the NHL. He said keeping the ice cold enough for skating was not a problem. Keeping the lines and more importantly the logos/ads from looking blurry would be. They would have to keep the ice in the shade.
I think 2011 would be a good year to put a game in SoCal, because the Rose Bowl will be on Jan 2nd that year. (No Rose Bowl on Sundays)
Now the part people will hate. It should be at Anaheim Stadium. It is a taller/steeper building so it has better shade and it won't have to fight for hotel space. Also it holds less people so we won't have to hear that (insert name) stadium/teams sold out but SoCal doesn't have the fans.
Quick question about the temp. how were they able to do the Vegas game back in the 90's when they say game time temp was 80F??
The ice was slush. Having a team of millionaires on slushy ice is not a smart idea. And they have rules in effect for these outdoor games where if they can't get the ice the way they want it they'll cancel it. In Chicago they had much more prep time than in Buffalo so the ice was better. They might be able to do it in SF but no way it happens in SoCal. Our weather is just way too unpredictable. Xmas day it was 40 something and raining. 3 weeks later it's 90 with Santa Ana winds.
