I know a lot of people didn't like the signing/trade but I can honestly say I liked it from day one. His contract is large but its up at the end of the year. He's a great player and only cost us a 2nd round pick, compare that to Tanguay who has been less effective for a first round pick and I don't think you can say this was a bad trade.

I like Lang, don't like his salary but that's another story. The way he plays with both brothers you can see they are very comfortable out there with him.He makes smart plays and gets the puck on net doesn't get too fancy. I also like the fact that he smiles out there and always looks like he his having a good time, very good team player

I won't give up on Tanguay just yet,I think his game will get better late in the season and will be 1 of our best players come playoff time

Agree, if were going to play the kostitsyns with a veteran he's a good choice. Kovalev is a one man show out there who's prone to bad penalties and turnovers Lang seems like a more calming influence especially when Sergei has some Kovyesque tendencies

Power we have:

All our players are dangerous offensively, from Tanguay to Markov. Even Jesus with some sick passes.

Im definitely not giving up, just making a comparison. Maybe another will have to be made at the end of the year. To have your top point producer on high skill team for a 2nd round pick is pretty amazing, but his salary comes along with it.

he's been doing a lot of little things really well. He doesn't rush the play, takes his time and usually takes the right decision.

If you look at it this way, his current line has everything it needs to be successful :
-Lang is on fire
-The two brothers are playing together
-AK is finally on the right wing

now if Carbo agrees to keep them together for 7-8 games in a row, results should be very interesting

Same. I was a big fan of the deal from day one and Lang has been way better than advertised. I'd love to re-sign him if he keeps up his play but I don't think he'll be willing to take a paycut.

An excellent acquisition. Good attitude, heady, versatile, productive, and a big, talented right-handed center. Capable of playing effectively with the brothers K, which is not an obvious skill.

Hmm, we can only hope. Lang is on pace for his best season since '04, but the man seems down-to-earth enough to realize he's 38 years old and playing in a league dominated by guys who are 25 or younger.

Gainey's gonna have to work his magic this summer with 12 free agents while keeping in mind that Price and S.K. will become RFAs after next season. I don't see Price signing for less than 5M, since that's what Fleury got for pooping the Stanley Cup finals winning goal in his own net.

I am always amazed at the fact that he is 38. He doesn't seem tired at all even after 43 games played. The guy just knows what to do and doesn't waste any energy doing things that don't matter

Is Lang's salary 4 million? Even at 4.5 that is that bad. He just gets better and better. He seems to be enjoying himself and the other players smile when he scores. He may be a good team guy. One of Bob's best moves.

Lang can be a little frustrating to watch at times because he looks so nonchalant but he's a smart player, know where to go in all zones and will not spend energy for battles he knows he won't win. That's experience for you.

I wouldn't say all but I would say most. As good as they are at what they do for the team you can't really say that Komisarek, Kostopoulos and Gorges are dangerous offensively.

Im really impressed with his offensive production.. But I still think he is a risk defensively when he is on the ice 5 on 5.. Anyway, Im satisfacted in the whole, he has a great attitude, great hands, solid shot.. In fact I watched Sundin play yesterday and it makes me feel even more happy to have Lang..

intresting stats with lang and the kosty bro's

In the last six games:
Andrei Kostitsyn has 6 goals and 4 assists, and is +2
Sergei Kostitsyn has 2 goals and 4 assists, and is +4
Robert Lang has 5 goals and 4 assists, and is +5

Yeah he's tied for team worst -4 (and managed to get there in 5 games). They aren't very happy with him at all so far saying he's slowing down the team. I guess he took some costly penalties last night too. Still early but we may have dodged a bullet there.

To me our pro scouting has gone from god-awful (Ribiero for Niniimaa, Samsonov) to pretty darn good. Lang, TK, Hamrlik are all huge contributors to the team these days. I hear Pierre McGuire bash our pro scouting (namely Pierre Gauthier) all the time but as far as I can tell the habs pro-level moves have all been hard to criticize for the last two seasons. (The amateur scouting, of course, has been spectacular for years now. Thank you very very very much Mr. Timmons.)

So what changed? I have a vague memory of some personnel changes a year or two ago, but no real knowledge. Anyone?

I find he brings more to the table than Tanguay who was all flash early on then disapeared. He takes faceoffs, plays PP and PK and seems to click pretty well with a few different players. If we can get Lang for another year at 3.5-4 mil I'd do it quick. Tanguay won't get 5 mil+ on the UFA market, I'm not sure if we are not better off trusting our young forwards.
