Big surprise considering the plugs that had the #3 spot in previous years. I expected more offensively from Radek Bonk and he sucked his first year but turned it around (defensively) in his second. But when Koivu went down he was not at all reliable to fill that spot.

Smolinski was just terrible.

Now Lang is a true offensive centre who can fill in on one of the top lines due to injury (which he is doing now).

I know it's nice and neat to put everything into pretty little "1st line, 2nd line" labels, but Lang isnt "filling in" for anybody. He leads our team in points, if anything he's our '1st line' center

Well that's what I mean.

He was originally brought in to be the 3rd line centre and now he's filling in and is our 1st line centre. And he is "filling in" because he would not play this much if Saku was healthy.

^ he's been playing big minutes since day 1. not to nitpick but according to the stats he's actually been playing less in the past dozen games than when Saku was healthy

I would go as far to say that he should be resigned ahead of Tanguay at the moment. He has been, and continues to be, an invaluable addition to the team.

It's kind of unfair to compare the two since Tanguay has been out with injuries. But I agree, if Lang can keep up his great play, Gainey will have a very tough decision to make at the end of the season.

Agreed...Lang serves more of a purpose, and Tanguay can be replaced by Pacioretty...BTW, who is that chick in your avatar?

If both were resignable for 3-3.5 next year they both bring great depth.

I would sign Lang for next season. I don't know how much he'd want or how many years he may ask for but if he would agree to a 1 year deal I'd be for it.
