I don't see why Chicago needs a major shake up.

i dont see anyone touching ricks contract. Too much for a guy who has had major injury problems so often, and is 100% unproven in the playoffs (not his fault, i know, but a reality nonetheless).

Why does chicago want to trade roster players for a draft pick and a goalie who will be sent on waivers soon. Pretty sure theyre looking to win now. Why trade Huet? Khabi is gone next year.

I would say Islanders win this, as long as Dip. is always hurt, with that contract.

As an Isles fan, where do I sign? We get out of Ricks contract (even if Huet's kinda sucks it is shorter), and get a couple of decent younger players for UFAs Comrie and Sillinger?

Why does Ottawa or Chicago even think about this? Awful. Please people think a bit before posting this garbage.

somehow the deal sort of sucks for all three teams

gerber isnt an NHL goalie at this point, if he ever was much more then marginal to begin with. Chicago gives up their depth in goal while headed for a playoff run. Mike Comrie has never been more then an underachiever that cant hold down a spot on a first line with a good team and makes too much to be a mediocre second line guy with questionable defensive skills/willingness to pay a price. Chicago only gets a pick that wont be ready to contribute until their current team is too expensive to hold together and they are already in rebuild mold.

Chicago needs to win within the next couple years... say no from their pov

ottawa does get a prized young stud dman but takes on a giagnatic contract with a guy battling very major injury concerns and get a useless ufa 3rd line center for their own purposes. Let them keep their draft pick cause the rebuilding process will be long one for Ottawa now. Barker will be too expensive by the time they are ready to contend again.

Islanders do get out from under Diepietro's contract but if healthy he is 10 times the goalie Huet is, and someone possible to build around. They deal off a franchise potential guy for three lottery pick types that wlll ensure several more years of disaster for the franchise if they are the types this team decides to fill roster spots with.

Diepietro's contract will be paid by insurance if he remains injured. Let the guy have a chance to get healthy and then deal him when he is healthy if you are going to deal him at all.

The rebuild process is still a couple years off in NY... making short term band aid trades is the wrong way to go.

Sillinger is a UFA at season's end and his career might be over(he is injured right now) so even if he was available to be traded I don't see it to a team not in the playoffs.

if i was to take a stab at putting together a workable three way between these teams...

Martin Gerber, Ottawa first round pick pick, and 2 Ottawa second round picks end up in NY. {NY gets cannon folder for their net as they try to get into line to draft Tavares or Hedman with their own pick... then add the Ottawa first for another blue chip building block... and free up cap room to play in the UFA this offseason)

Doug Weight and Rick Diepitro, and one of the Ottawa second rounders then ends up in Chicago. {with luck hopefully Diepietro will be healthy enough to help Chicago win something within the next couple years... he is actually affordable on a yearly deal if healthy and is a former first overall pick. On a good team he might be very very cup caliber imho. Weight of course has a resurgencance going on and is likely available to resign for a reasonable price to be Chicago's vet second line center the next couple years as they try to win their cup... the deal would require Weight actually resign before Chicago can agree to it)

Cam Barker and Nikolai Khabibulin end up in Ottawa. {If I am Ottawa, I do resign Khabibulin and emerge the winner of this three way... but even Barker himself is worth the 3 draft picks imho. }

Chicago gives up the best player in the deal... but ends up with goaltending that should be affordable and very good for years.

Ottawa surrenders the draft picks but if they actually get a solid goalie, their rebuild process becomes much quicker. Maybe they dont have to deal off Spezza after all.

Islanders do lose a possible franchise goalie... but he is shell shocked now with them and likely needs a change of scenery before he can flourish. Islanders really should be focused on a couple more years of bottom feeding then try to pull a Chicago/Washington/Pittsburg thing where they take a run for respectability in 3-4 years with a couple franchise studs from the draft leading the way

This would have been my response as well. Chicago is rolling and has no need for this deal.

I know we need a guy like Barker, but I'm not interested in giving up Zubov. Swap him for another prospect/pick then I'll do it.

We don't need Barker though, nor any other young offensive D-man. We have lots of them as it is. We need a veteran offensive D-man to rely on for now and help them along their development.

We don't need Khabibulin either. Not for trade anyways.

I don't see the Isles dealing Comrie and Sillinger and a pick for Vermette, who is on pace for less than 30 points, has a salary of $3M for next season, and is a UFA after next season. I think the Isles would rather just get whatever picks they can get for those two.

I'm probably in the minority of Isles fans here that will say this but i want to keep DP and his contract...I have to keep faith he will get healthy and then the contract will definatly be a steal

im with ya....i think this year off will do wonders for him and hell come back extremely strong but thats strong optimisim but i do believe he is a top 5 goalie in this league if he will ever get healthy and 4.5 mill for a top 5 goalie is great
