I'm still taking Getzlaf but this idea that it's so much easier to score in the East and especially the Southeast is bull.
pavel datsyuk is an elite passer, and if you take the third most shots in all of the nhl like hossa you're going to score.

and i don't think any team has two defenseman who can move the puck like rafalski and lidstrom

it is easier to score in the east. hossa was just doing poorly in atlanta for the first half of last year because he was just a little off, it happens, and he was playing with bad line mates and a terrible blue line.

just because 125 out of 144 think he is better, doesn't mean 125 out of 144 think he destroys staal.

compared to atlanta, probably yes. compared to pittsburgh, probably not.

hossa plays a few minutes less in detroit than he did for atlanta and pittsburgh.

hossa is a having a normal season.

career points per game (before this season): .924
this season's points per game: 1

career goals to assists ratio (before this season): .857
this season's goals to assists ratio: .957

his career points per game is of course lower than in this season, since career numbers include his rookie season.

Then you know as well that it's all based on current stats. So why the fuss?

100 people out of 100 people will agree that 100 cents is more than 99 cents. Does that mean that 100 cents is a lot more than 99 cents? Nope. There is nothing wrong with the results of this poll. You just can't stand see Staal losing a meaningless poll.

Love both these guys, but I'll have to go with the former Hitman, Getzlaf.

Staal is no doubt a talented player and people love the story of that hockey family, but he has flatlined for awhile now. Getzlaf no question right now is better IMO. If you were to ask which one has the better shot of making the Olympic team next year I think the answer to that would make it clear.

Getzlaf hasn't slown down. Gotta admit that Getzlaf has more to work with... but I think Getzlaf reminds me of Messier in some ways. He's got a nasty streak but doesn't bull crazy **** and is incredibly effective in all situations. He's still so young wonder what where he'll be in 5 years.

Getzlaf is starting to emerge as one of the great centers in the league...Staal was better from Jump Street but Getzlaf will eventually be an elite player.

Hockey Canada has a history with taking players that have had experience in the system. Eric Staal has played in the last two world championships and was on the taxi squad for the 2005 games. I would think that if it came right down to those two, Eric Staal would likely have the edge having been on the taxi squad for the last games.

It will be interesting to see how these guys compare in the prime of their careers. IMO, the top two forwards from the '03 class.

Getzlaf has torn **** up playing with Heatley and Nash at the WC, why would they want to break that up?

It will be an interesting decision for sure, I was just underlining the fact that it probably wouldn't be an easy decision for Hockey Canada even if Getzlaf had totally outplayed Staal for the past season. Last year Getzlaf and Staal were in a pretty dead heat. This season Staal has had a down year while Getzlaf has taken his game to another level... that doesn't mean that HC forgets about all the time that Staal has invested into their program and the Gold medal that he helped them win in Moscow in '07.

In a vaacum it would probably be Getzlaf ahead of Staal right now in terms of who you'd want on your Olympic team, but HC has a history of putting factors like team loyalty, past experience, and "role playing" into the equation. In other words, I wouldn't be any more confident saying that Staal would make it than I would in saying that Jason Spezza, another taxi squad guy from '05, would make it.
