If he's hurt, Sbisa or Parent should be playing. It's ****ing pathetic that we have Jones on the ice for that salary with a bad hip, while we have cheap, smooth skating guys getting the shaft. The dude can barely skate.
Good call Storm!! I cant believe how many people are buying into JXC's theory as if it is fact that Jones is still hurt. If Homer is letting him continue to play while hurt that is not smart at all. I just dont see the point of playing him and therefore sitting Sbisa at this point if that is true.
Not at all. If you read my posts, I'm clearly not in the Jones fan club...it's just that I don't hate the guy either.
If you want to add to me to your said 'Jones Fan Club List', you go ahead...whatever floats your boat pal.

I couldn't agree more.
Let's at least agree on one thing though, he's always (this season aside) been a pretty good skater. Like you said, he's not skating. That only leads me to believe he's favouring an injury, which I would guess is his hip. I was shocked he came back so early.
Another vote for Jones. Hurt or not, I want this clown off this team. For less than $1 million, I could live with his brain cramps and random blind passes up the middle. For nearly $3 million per, no freaking way. I know it won't happen, but that's who I'd like gone. It'd help not only the cap situation for the Flyers, but my blood pressure as well.
I clearly understand the salary of Jones, which is why I don't see him getting moved. Wether teams have holes to fill or not, there are many options and no GM is going to make a stupid move. I don't care much for Vandermeer, that ship has sailed...it's over and done with.
Jones salary is that of a 3rd/4th guy, second pairing, no doubt. The fact that he doesn't play like he's paid (at the moment, wether do to lack of talent or injury) makes him IMO very difficult to move.
That's the problem with this team right there. I believe Jones does have the physical talent to be a good defenseman in this league. His problem, as is the problem with most of the Dmen coming up through the Flyers system, is making poor decisions, with and without the puck.
Sorry to beat a long dead horse but the defensive system we play is still the problem more so than the players. Kimmo can rise above it because he has experience and is just that good. Carle came up through SJ's system. Coburn was progressing nicely until he stepped beyond his means with no real direction. Practice, coaching and a system is there to take a large share of the decision making out of the players hands. We just don't have any of that right now.
I'm not trying to defend Jone's but I guarantee he would be a much different player had he been drafted by Minnesota and spent a few years in their organization.

Agreed. I think with the proper coaching are right pairing, he can be a decent 3rd/4th defenseman for a team. At the risk of being labeled a fanboy, he was pretty good last year. While some hate him for his latest contract and cap hit, he didn't have the same contract last year. Hence my confusion with the hatred.
Oh well.

You could say that about a bunch of players. Not to pick on Biron, but how much better 'could' he be with less with shots? You know what I mean. Speaking of Minnesota, there are some that suggest we go after Backstrom as a UFA should he not re-sign. One could argue, like the point you made...that he's not the same goalie playing for the Flyers. It's all relative.
Good "bad team" goalies are hard to find. There are a few who like to face more shots and get in to a flow of the game. Though most would take the trapping team goalie low shot total, zero 2nd chance opportunity games. Cujo in his prime liked to see alot of shots though. It's basically focus and technique vs athletic ability and competitive mentality.
Right, thats my point. We should be asking the same question the Flyers should be asking themselves. Who's the last really solid Dman that was drafted by the Flyers, put through their system, and became a good 1st-2nd pairing guy for us? I'd have to think pretty hard and go back to at least the 90's to answer that one. I don't think our scouting/drafting has been that bad. Even if it was blind luck should get us one. It's clear to me that there's a breakdown in our developement of defensive talent and has been for a long time. It doesn't help once they're here and Stevens throws them to the wolves with no real plan for what it is they should be doing.
