Stephan never playing...

Is it me or is Stephan the least used backup in the league? I know the Stars are starting to win on a more regular basis now and that Turco has finally woken up (not completely yet...) but why not play Stephan? He's not played in the last 14 games and the only time he got ice time was for 20 min.

I think Tippett is hoping the All-Star break will be enough rest for Turco. And if I were to guess, I think Stephan will start 3 or 4 more games. Tippett just has no confidence in playing rookies unless his hand is forced by Jackson (GM).

No, it's not rookies in general. Tippett had no problem playing Niskanen and Grossman last year, for instance. Tippett just doesn't have any faith in Stephan.

Or Eriksson.

Or Brunnstrom.

This had changed. He's playing them a lot more now.
You have to earn your time under Tippett. I can understand that.

Jackson forced Tippett to give Eriksson a chance. And the only reason Brunnstrom finally got some minutes was because Avery got suspended.

Unless you are Turco, Modano, or Sydor. Then you get playing time no matter what you do.

We don't know about Brunnstrom. The trend, even before the whole Avery mess, was that he was getting progressively more ice time. Eriksson is the only one we know of pressure from management to play him more.

Heck, Tippet played Jokinen a top when he was a rookie. Regardless of the popular opinion, he doesn't have a problem with giving rookies minutes.

Tippett is too lazy to change the lineup card to longer players names so Turco plays every game and that's why Barch plays every game.

Smith was the same length as Turco's name so no issue.
Remember when Tippett wrote in the wrong goalie before against Edmonton a few years ago and Kapanen's goal got disallowed?

He played him when he had chemistry with Modano and Lehtinen and because our offense was totally anemic that year.

no but seriously, Stephan has only played in what, 3 whole games where he actually was the starter. I'd be quite pissed off if I were him. It's not like he was the San Jose Sharks' backup and the team was winning everything; in this case, Turco is playing average and so is the team. Why not give Stephan a chance?

They had their chance when Sanford was on waivers, I was almost positive they would pick him up but they didn't so....wouldn't hold your breath this year. Turco is starter, Tobias is backup.

I think it's only 2 starts, right? Chicago and Nashville, both on the road.

Tippett sucks at coaching. That's the only explanation we can give you.

Win at home against the Wild.

He beat one of the hottest teams in the league at the time.

Loss to Chicago was bad, but the team was even more terrible in front of him.

He was amazing against Nashville. THey should have won that game, but the team screwed the pooch. He also made one of the best saves I've seen this year.

oh ok. Thought it was 3. That's quite ridiculous! 2 games out of 43! And turco hasn't exactly been playing lights out.

No, you were right. I completely forgot the Minnesota game. Doesn't make it any better though. Stephan has clearly earned more starts based on his play in those 3 games.

Sanford, Dubie, Norrena, hell, even Gerber was on waivers I think.

Obviously there's some conflicting opinions in Dallas right now. They would have picked another backup if they thought they needed one, the coach might think so but the GMs must not.
