Yea it does but since they were the team that put him on waivers they cant claim him. They had just thaught that no one else would. Any player that plays in the european league has to clear waivers first, thats why all this other talk about jagr coming back this year is crazy because he would never clear.

They knew the rules. They just weren't getting into a game of chicken with the Blue Jackets. The Isles needed him ASAP which is why they signed him - knowing there was a chance another team could take him.

I think it's a pretty dumb rule. It should be taken out of the next CBA.

Can someone explain to me how this is any different than any other player going through waivers? Seriously, quit the whining. The player went through waivers. A team chose to claim him. Move on.

I lolled a good lol. I can see the Jackets needing a vet goalie of sorts and the Islanders really needing a starting goalie who has more than 8 games of NHL experience, but you kinda feel that this wasn't needed. Funny and sad at the same time.

If Howsam or anyone else thinks adding Wade friggin' Dubie to his roster is a move that is going to "help the team," think again.

We're talking about NHL fringe here.

Much ado about nothing.

What Columbus did was well within their rights, though certainly not a move that all (most) NHL GMs would do.

In the overall scheme of things, it matters little to nothing for NYI. They can lose without Dubie, just as they would lose with him.

It's no different then any players not on an entry level contract in the AHL. If you play in a different professional league you need to pass through waivers before returning to the NHL. If you take it out for international leagues you also need too for the AHL which would then eliminate waivers entirely and would cost a lot of players money which the NHLPA would never want.

ONe of two things are going to happen Leclaire is seriously hurt and has season ending surgery or he is moved to Ottawa or Toronto. Spezza and Antropov and Kubina are the names that have been mentioned and with the BJ's needing to make the playoffs I can gaurantee you Jason Williams wasn't their only deal.

Actually it's not.

Players playing in the AHL have to pass through waivers to come to the NHL, so should players playing in Europe. If they didn't teams would just send all their players over to Europe to play so they didn't have to go through waivers when called back up.

Exactly, no GM would reward that sort of behaviour by trading something for him afterwards - plus it would hurt Howson's reputation more than that 6th round pick would help.

I agree that its a legal move, but its still a terrible thing to do. Dubie signed with the team where his family lives, and where he's played in the past. Columbus could have gone somewhere else for a backup.

Nobody's whining. I think it's hilarious that Blue Jacket fans think this move means anything to their team. Howson claimed a guy who got bought out from the KHL to be a backup. I guess the Blue Jackets had to try to make themselves relevant somehow.

If I had an extra goalie I would call Snow so fast he would think he was the the hottest girl in high school getting called for the prom.

It's different because of how it screws over the Islanders. Normally, a player going through waivers is a guy the team doesn't really care about. This time, it was a guy the Islanders hoped would start for them but had to clear because he played in Europe, and basically puts them back at square one with AHL goalies.

No one really cares that the player was claimed, it's all about the predicament the Islanders thought they were getting out of, but, alas, aren't.

Howson: "I need a backup Garth"

Garth: "Just claim Dubi"

Howson: "Umm I figured that would make you mad."

Garth: "No not at all. We'll lose some more games and it won't be my fault. I want to tank it bad."

Howson: "Yea, you do need to tank."

Garth: "Just do it, we're cool."

If I recall correctly the NYI ALSO passed on Sanford...so yeah, they could have gone elsewhere also.

This is business and the jackets need a backup as well. The Pens actually gave up a lot for Garon, and clearly the jackets OR the NYI weren't prepared to do that.

I doubt the Wings really wanted to lose Quincy via the waiver wire either, but that is business. Not all teams who go through waivers are unwanted cast offs. Teams have to fill needs and will do it however they need to.
