Edmonton won again today are are simply too close to a playoff spot to make any significant move that even has even a chance of weakening the team. Trading core players away in any kind of deal opens up that possibility.
Oilers are on a good run, and Smith & Smyth are playing great - btw did you see Smith jump into the play several times today? From Lowe's comments, it looks like the only thing that could happen would be for the Oil to get a cheap PP QB D of some sort.
I don't think Muckler would include Vermette in any deal...he's really good at keeping young talent and that's what makes the team so good. Rachunek is definately a player we can part with for another top 4 d-man.
