Daniel Briere

Wondering what the value of Daniel Briere?
Would Philly fans want to move him?
I understand he has a NTC, so basically this is just nothing more than curiousity.

Some philly fans want to move him I don't see it happening during the season, because with him in the lineup we can roll 3 dangerous lines come playoff time.

I'm definitely one Flyer fan that thinks the Flyers need to move him.

Come on. Briere's contract isn't the greatest, but he's still a PPG player.

Yeah I wouldn't move him this season unless they get a very good and IMMEDIATELY HELPFUL return for him, which I really don't see happening.

I do think they need to explore moving him in the offseason. It's just too much money to spend on three centers when you've got to invest and improve an average defense and goaltending duo.

Brind'Amour deserves a chance at a Cup as a Flyer. Period.

Brind'Amour already has a Cup, though. And the Flyers don't deserve ANY chances at a Cup, anyway.

I would puke if that went through. No matter how bad Rod has been this season, you just know he will find his game back in Philly...

i'd welcome rod the bod back with open arms. i loved primeau, but it came at a bitter cost in brindy. i almost wish the flyers had traded lindros instead of brindamour.

Does Breire have value because of that contract. I love Danny but no way do I want any part of that stupid contract Philly signed him to. That's what you get when you massively overpay in free agency. Deal with it Philly, you gave him 52 million for 8 years.

Agreed. I was thinking he'd fit in well with Columbus and their need for a #1 center, but then I looked at the contract and changed my mind...

He is also a big minus player. A -22 last year while he scored 31 goals and assisted on 41 others? That is really, really bad. He is very opportunistic and good on the pp, but isn't the flyers pp 2nd or something without him?

5 on 5 he is a liability because if he plays on a top line, he will play vs. other teams top d pairings or their (best players/shutdown players) and he can't handle that. So, where do you play him? On a third line with guys who might not necessarily be too adept at creating plays or finishing the ones he creates? Often too, the third line (not sure if Stevens does this, I actually don't think he has a shutdown line--doesn't look like it anyway) is a line that plays to shut down opposition. Briere most definitely can't do that. This isn't a player that is critical to the flyers success, imo. Bad signing, with an even worse contract.

I believe, if the flyers could move him tomorrow, they would. His contract is just so bad that I can't see anyone taking that chance on him this early in his term.

his contract reminds me a lot of gomez's... and i dont think the flyers or the rangers are going to have an easy time moving either one of them no matter how good they are.

The difference is Gomez can cover his cheque away from the scoresheet.

I could have sworn that Daniel Briere has averaged more than a point per game over his past five seasons in the NHL AND he is just about a PPG player in the playoffs for his career too, and led the Flyers in scoring when they went past Caps and Habs last season to the conference finals just last year.

Briere is an injury concern, yes, but it isn't as if his contract is (Gomez) horrible compared to his production. Just not great value a'la Savard.

TO VAN
Briere

TO PHI
Schneider
Sauve
Pyatt (mostly a salary dump, but Pyatt does have some uses)
1st '09

Van gets: A goal scorer type player to play with either the Sedin's or Sundin. We have enough centers so he'd have to be moved to the wing... How does he play there?

Philly gets: A blue chip goalie prospect ready to start in the NHL next season assumably, he could even make an impact now. A promising defensive prospect in Sauve. A good two-way forward with considerable size, he can literally be inserted on any line. And of course, a 1st.

Whatcha think?

Basically, somewhere in the range of about $60-million U.S.D.
Although if he invested in 'Crocs' with Peter Forsberg's family, it could be a lot more.

Take out the 1st and I would be more receptive to it, still probably wouldn't do it. 6 more years at $6.5M for Briere is a non-starter as far as I'm concerned. Although the last two years of the deal carry a $3M and $2M salary respectively so it would make it cheaper to buy him out if needed.

Cheaper to buy him out, but correspondingly a much bigger cap hit for doing so.

yeah, i was thinking as much. though if a team really needs a top-line center, they could do much worse than briere. dunno if that's the canucks though.

Who knows, maybe in the off-season they could have more interest. But with Briere having a NMC, why would he waive it? He's got the Flyers' by the balls.

If Hitch could teach him a defensive game, I probably wouldn't mind seeing him in union blue. $6.5m/yr is just barely - barely! - on the edge of acceptable. (And who knows, maybe he and Brass will get along. )

Briere for Leclaire?
