word... I like Ranger, although he doesn't play with much of an edge for a big man correct? That's something the Flyers could really use.

Obviously the Flyers have to clear salary in the deal, perhaps Upshall and Jones. Or Lupul and Jones for Ranger+?

Are you guys ********? Did you look at the source? It's a Philadelphia newspaper..All the writer was saying is the last option they have is to make a trade, and that Holmgren has expressed interest in Ranger. Where does it say that TB is desperate to get rid of him? Or that Holmgren is going to rip him off? Where does it even say that TB is interested in getting rid of him?

Lay off the TB hate for a while, they've actually been doing a lot better lately.

so has Downie and I don't think Eminger has been too bad for the Bolts. It's too early to say who won and who lost that one.

It also says that Philadelphia contacted the Lightning about Ranger not the other way around or that they are even discussing a deal. Any GM worth his weight in salt should contact the Lightning about such a good young, cheap defenseman.

true, does seem a little strange though that a Lightning source would give out that information

If Ranger is your 2nd best defenseman, then who's your best?

The final option would be to consummate a trade. While the Flyers wouldn’t have to strike a deal to get their salary cap in order, a source from the Tampa Bay Lightning told the Daily Times last week the Flyers had expressed interest in injured defenseman Paul Ranger. He has been in and out of the lineup recently with an upper body injury.

Ranger, 24, has a salary cap hit of $933,000 and is signed through 2009-10, at which time he would still be a restricted free agent.

Ranger would be an awesome addition for the Flyers, and it would be a huge mistake for Tampa to give up on him. What could be going the other way?
Ok, TB fan here. No way would we want to trade Ranger. He is an awesome bargain at $1mil.

Did anyone notice that this "source" reported this rumor last week when the Lecavalier trade rumors were running amuck?

I would consider Ranger a definite keeper by TB.

Well, its rather a dead offer. TB has been decimated by injuries to its blue liners. Why would we get rid of our #2 d-man who is being payed only $1mil? Dont make sense. TB's priority is to get blue liners. I know that Phili doesnt want to get rid of Timonen or Coburn, so what's the point of a trade? Also, TB doesnt want to pick up more salary.

We just picked up Cory Murphy, so we almost have a decent cache of defenseman now. Mez, Ranger and Murphy isn't too bad for a top 3, but after that, things fall apart a little...

No, TB doesnt want to finish last again (ever). TB has been getting better over the past 3 weeks. Our coach Tocchet has been working hard with the players and TB is climbing out of the cellar. If Ranger can stay healthy, he will become a star. TB needs to jell and pick up another top blue liner. It doesnt make sense right now to trade Ranger. Sorry..

I think it would take something like Jones Knuble and Ryan Parent to get it done. In all honesty its probably the best move we can make to get a decent player and clear cap space at the same time.

LOL, Eklund saying that the Flyers could trade for Vinny if they wanted to by moving Giroux, Coburn etc. Does this clown not know about the salary cap?

We have already confirmed on the Flyers board, that no trade has to happen at all. Kukkonen and Giroux go to the Phantoms, Sbisa back to Lethbridge. That's it.

So you're looking at ditching salary and moving a nice prospect for a guy playing top pair minutes?

I know that TB has done some questionable moves, but this just reeks of a Flyers writer playing pretend GM and trying to recreate Coburn v2.0. Just makes no sense whatsoever, and then some posters add insult to injury by throwing all the crap they don't want on the team into the deal.

Why are you calling people ********? Stop being a jerk.

It is a Philly writer that based this off of a Tampa Bay source.
