Not expected to report and refused to report are entirely different. If Tamby told him not to report, then of course he's not expected to report. It's clear Edmonton had no intention of having him on their roster and took him in the deal because they had to.

Given that the Islanders aren't anywhere near contending for a playoff spot, the GM will be unwilling to give up draft picks or prospects for what amounts to a fill-in for the rest of the season. Vancouver has said it would try to trade Curtis Sanford after he cleared waivers. Dany Sabourin, who was traded from Pittsburgh to Edmonton on Saturday, is not expected to report because the Oilers have two goaltenders. They likely will try to move Sabourin, who is making $525,000 in the final year of his deal.
that's pretty odd Darth. When the deal was done T-Bell announced Sabourin would not be reporting to Edmonton at all. He publicly stated Sabourin would be traded or waived.

I think this might be the case of the pot calling the kettle black.

"You're not coming here" T-Bell

"Fine, I wouldn't have reported anyways" Sabourin

or

"I'm not going to report to Edmonton" Sabourin

"That's fine by us we really didn't want you anyways. Better off with 2 goalies thanks" T-Bell.

If the Islanders don't take him, St. Louis might if Manny Legace is out for a prolonged amount of time. Legace was injured yesterday.

I guess their story wasn't very clear.

Be that as it may, he'd be a reasonable patch for the Isles for the remainder of the season.
It says he isn't expected to report. And that would be because Tambellini told him not to report because he was either being traded or waived. Waiving him was the option in the end.

It doesn't say he (Sabourin) refused to report.

What was the point of acquiring him in the deal to move Garon.. they could've asked for something else if they were going to waive him anyways.

Pittsburgh wouldn't have made the trade if they didn't include Sabourin. They didn't want to have 3 goalies on the NHL roster anymore than Edmonton.

Sabourin was a throw in that EDM had to take, or the deal wouldn't happen.

quick ....some go and change the trade proposals for NYI -EDM(there is about 5 of them) because Sabourin was in all those trades for Weight.

I am not sure the Isles are going to pick him up.

No surprise. Maybe the Isles claim him, maybe he goes to the minors. Who cares either way honestly.

And so the list potentially grows bigger for "Goalies the league considers better than me" for Curtis Sanford.

Whew - glad he didn't report... would have been a bit awkward at the airport after he was told not to report.

And he even went by a few teams.

If Sabourin is claimed, it's likely his last shot at the NHL. He's one guy on that team who would actually have something to play for.

You are kidding either

Sanford was rumoured to be headed to Columbus, but management nixed it:

You must feel very proud of yourself - being the 18th poster in this thread to make that point.

Quite an accomplishment.

Yeah then that means the Pens moved Ryan Stone and a 4th for a capable starting goaltender. He would be great depth with Jon Currey already in the minors. That is if he would report to Wilkes Barre/Scranton.

If we can't send him to the minors without him clearing waivers what makes you think your team could.

Also if anyone claims him, then tries to send him down, EDM gets first crack at him.
