Depends a bit on whether we are talking about as players or as people.
Like: Eric Lindros. A great player and fantastic to watch. Unfortunately it's always the question of what if with him. But basically he made me a Flyers fan and for that I have to thank him. Bobby Clarke. The ultimate working class hockey player. A fantastic player and leader. And all in spite of diabetes. Ron Hextall. Every team needs a lunatic between the pipes. Bernie Parent. One of the best goalies ever. Great to watch him in the old standup style. Mike Richards. He is just great and could become the next Bobby Clarke. The ultimate fit for this sports club.
Dislike: Mike York. Lazy ****ing bum. Steve Downie. Sorry, but what has he ever really done for us? Steve Eminger. Total bust, I still can't get over that game in Ottawa where he tripped over himself twice, both in crucial situations. Mike Rathje and Derian Hatcher in combination. Too slow. Can probably be attributed to Clarkie signing those two pylons, but can't they just retire and stop burning a hole into the teams wallet?
Rod Brind' Amour--Probably my favorite Flyer of all time. Should have traded Lindros to Carolina instead.
Sami Kapanen--ultimate team guy. he knew his offensive skills were declining, but he would do anything to help the team win. I am convinced if he was needed he would have played goal
Billy Tibbets( not even debatable. far and away easily. this ******* didnt deserve to wear a flyer sweater)
Ulf Samuelsson- another ******* but for different reasons
Never liked Peter White, I remember getting pissed when I was like 12 because they had a line of people signing my jersey and when I told him he didn't have to sign it, he thought I was kidding.
John LeClair, I think just cause everyone else loved him, and I didn't see him as much more then a heavy shot who Lindros made rich.
Jiri Dopita overhyped?
Roenick was my favorite, after him and excluding the obvious.
Comrie (wasn't here long but moving him for Sean Burke?)
Sharp (good to see him doing well)
Have to disagree with you on LeClair.....he scored 40 goals in a season largely playing without Lindros and was still a 25 goal scorer without him and with all the back problems. Its the same as the Gagne/Forsberg argument....Playing with a superstar will make you BETTER, but it doesnt mean you arent a very good player without them.
Recchi - all time favorite flyer
Desjardin - underrated by the rest of the league but was huge for our team during his entire tenure as a flyer
Roenick - loved his playing style, quick, gritty and good overall player
Amonte - loved him in chicago sad he didnt stick here for long
LeClair - scored goals and lots of them enough said
Kapanen - his crawling back to the bench after the tucker hit in playoffs just shows how much of a determined individual he was loved watching him play
Carter, Richards, Coburn etc - has been a joy to watch all of these young players blossom into bonified NHLers cant wait to see what the future holds
Kyle Calder - just never lived up to his ability here was a disappointment
Billy Tibbetts - never deserved to put on a flyers jersey
Steve Downie - has no respect for the game would have loved if he stayed and got his act together but it doesnt look like thats going to happen
Podein- What a way to spell Shjon or Sean or Shawn or however you spell it
Zubrus- just loved his name
Zelepukin- he WAS the man
Pitkanen-beginning of his career
Dopita- hell, he even scored a hat trick for us
Pitkanen- rest of his career
Therien- just abhoridly bad
Biron- honestly he is not the answer to my prayers, nor will he be to any of ours
