1. Caroline/Florida
2. Montreal
3. Boston
4. Calgary (wont be, probably Sans or Dets)

Id love to see us go through 2 Canadian teams to win the cup.

Beating the Pens is the best way to start the playoffs

Had the Caps started last playoffs vs the failing Senators rather than the Flyers, the Caps advance and have a reasonable shot to continuen beyond the 2nd round. There is no way that I prefer a blood rival in the first round.

I'd rather make the finals than beat the Penguins. If this season, the only scenario for playing the Pens is the first round, I'll pass.

Beating the Pens is the best way to start the playoffs, but losing to the Pens is the worst thing to start a new core on, losing to the Flyers last year and then the Pens this year would just bring back all the negatives this franchise has gotten out of the limelight.

I rather see the Caps win a round this year and I don't care who it is.

I will be happy to face the 8 7 or 6 seed. I don't like the new playoff format, we are maybe living in the past wanting to face philly pitt, rangers etc. When they stuck us with the other losers in the southeast, the league should have had divisional playoffs to get the new rivalries started. Maybe they did when we stunk so I never noticed.

I'd prefer they play the 8th seed for obvious reasons , but apart from seeding it doesn't really matter to me. No one in the East is that daunting, and the difference between the Canes, Sabs, Panthers and Pens is negligible.

The Pens could potentially cause the most problems for the Caps, but that team looks like it could just as easily come apart at the seams.

The Canes appear to be a team whose window is shutting, the Panthers appear to be a year or so away from truely contending, and the Sabs are simply not that talented a team beyond Roy, Vanek, Pominville and Miller.

Thats not to say that the Caps can expect a cakewalk through the first round, but each presents a unique set of challenges, and I'm more concerned with seeding (home ice) than specific matchups.

Pens or Flyers. Beating any of them would make the whole season a success as far as I'm concerned, regardless of what happens afterwards.

It would be good for this team to play a team with a high GAA (Carolina or Pittsburgh right now), so that the offence can get rolling in the early games of the playoffs. Because once that gets going, the Caps are going to be very hard to stop.

You are actually saying you would rather beat the Pens or Flies in the first round and lose in the second than not play them and make it to the finals? Come on.

Best/easiest shot at winning the cup:

1st round: Buffalo
2nd round: Carolina
ECF: Florida
Cup: Phoenix

I think Florida would be the toughest one out of that bunch.

EDIT: I think part of the stigma following Carolina comes from the fact that they didn't have a superstar on that team. Staal is great, but he hasn't become the world-beater he looked like a couple of years ago. With Ovechkin's legend growing daily, I don't think these Caps would face the same kind of post-cup scrutiny.

Give me the Rags. And I sort of think that is who we'll end up playing.

The Caps PK is poor and they cant win on the road...I really like this team and the direction...but this is the sort of thing that will lead to a first round loss regardless of who they play.

what serious team is under .500 on the road?

There are a lot of teams that are just within a game or two of .500 on the road. Chicago, Calgary, Montreal. Those are all contenders right there.

Caps are fine on the road. They lost a lot of road games vs the West, when they were banged up and teams could matchup stars vs AHL defenseman.

Even their East road losses were close games that usually came down to defenseman/goalie not making a play. In Carolina Lepisto lost a board battle to Staal and Whitney, in Montreal Jurcina lost the puck in his skates and Johnson didnt feel like playing overtime. In Ottawa the PK allowed 3 goals including a late one on a bad penalty. The other road losses to the East are to Philly, Atlanta, and Buffalo.

So I don't think the road is something the Caps need to really worry about unless they get hurt again.

I wouldn't say they are "fine" on the road.

4 of their last 5 road losses came on a back to back. In all the Caps are 2-5-1 when playing the 2nd of a back to back on the road.

Eliminate the back to backs - which hopefully the Caps wont see this playoffs and they are 9-7-1 on the road, that includes the loss to SJ and Minny which almost everyone expected considering the injuries.

Seems fine to me. Could be better, but the Caps still have 3 games in Florida, 3 in Tampa, 2 more in Atlanta, and another game in Toronto to make up for some of the bad road play. 2 games in Boston, 1 in Philly, 1 in MSG, and 0 in Pittsburgh. Looks good to me.

"Fine" isn't going to get them very far.

They had home-ice last year and couldn't get out of the 1st round.

The team is by no means in Detroit, Boston or San Jose's league.
