TSN has Uppy on the trade block and according to them among the top 10 soon-to-be-traded.

I'd like to hear Dreger explain how that makes sense for the Flyers. The guy is just as full of **** as Eklund when it comes to trade rumours.

Proof that just because you clear waivers, doesn't mean you can't be traded.

I really would hate to see Scottie moved. I don't think we will do it. But...then again I'm not the GM.

But then again, what could we in return? Some draft picks?

Well guys, according to Eklund we might be leaning away from Forsberg and instead going for Antropov.

But who? Boston has been the top name. San Jose is definitely interested...But the leader today in my opinion, based on what I am hearing, is Philadelphia. This is far from the first time the Flyers have had interest. This also may show a leaning away from Forsberg...maybe.

Sigh... we should just go for Spezza

I didn't need Eklund to tell me that the Flyers have been interested in Antropov in the past.

Good lord hopefully Clarke isn't showing Homer his shrine to Antropov.

Scottie Upshall traded??
-Cheap- will never be that expensive
-Energy- great for a 3rd liner
- Value- more to us then to other teams

This does not make much sense to me at all??

To be honest, I really don't think Scottie will be traded. You have to remember he was supposedly definitely getting traded this time last year too. I don't think Homer's going to move him unless he really NEEDS to. It makes no sense.

Strictly from a cap perspective, moving Upshall is not really helping us.

Moving Lupul and Jones are smart moves.

Get it done Homer. Get it done.

i agree. i don't think homer will move any major pieces. the team is a solid contender except for some tweeking. its already been established that they can bring briere back by moving some contracts to the AHL. i look for a minor move or 2 (veteran forward and gritty dman) using picks &/or mid-level prospects. didn't the pens add gill last year for a pick? maybe someone like recchi for a pick or two by waiving metro. the only subtraction would be jones' contract for a pick.

i think they worry about lupul's and upshall's contracts in the offseason if they are going to move them.

I don't know why TSN thought it was a good idea to bring Dreger aboard. I laugh every time he talks about his sources; I'm completely convinced his 'sources' are Bob McKenzie.

I can see Scottie ending up the guy on the way out, though. It didn't make sense to me at first, but his impending free agency means he's going to get some kind of raise and probably more than the minimum. Clearing out Lupul might be the obvious choice, but it all comes down to whether or not another team wants to pay him over $4 Million for the next few years. If the Flyers can't deal Lupul, Upshall might end up being a dreaded 'cap casualty', but I hope he stays.

I wouldn't be against Antro+ for Lupul.

It's doubtful Upshall is traded until the offseason like Umberger was.

Our third line next year will be something like Briere between Asham and Kalinski if they keep Lupul and let Upshall go. It just doesn't make sense. You need balance in your lineup, not to mention a balance between where you allocate your cap spending. At least one of those high-priced forwards have to go. I don't understand how Holmgren thinks this team can work if he keeps giving so much money to his top 6 forwards and peanuts everywhere else.

This is without getting into the point about Lupul not being worth $4.25M at this point. I guarantee Holmgren said we're putting a lot of faith in you, so go tear it up next year and earn this deal we're giving you. He hasn't done that yet.

I think it would have to be a pick, because we really can't take anything back. I doubt they send a 1st, so would you really be comfortable with Antropov and a 2nd for Lupul? Antro is a UFA.

wasnt Antropov in that rumored "done deal" with Lindros heading to Toronto?

anyway, my take on the Upshall rumors probably has to do with his contract. His contract would be alot easier to move then Lupul. I dont want to see Upshall dealt either, but Lupul is severely overpaid at this point. Not sure anyone is going to take Lupul unless someone is desperate.

To be honest, if there was a way we could add Jones to the deal and get a draft pick back, I'd be all for it. People go on and on about Upshall, but he's nothing more than a mediocre third liner at best. What he does can easily be replaced by a guy like Nodl or Matsumoto (although I think when Matsumoto reaches the NHL, he'll be a winger on a line with Richards).

I think if Lehtonen plays behind a competent team, he'll blossom into that world class goalie he should be. The only thing that worries me about Lehtonen is his injury history. Add that with the concerns about the Flyers medical staff and that could be one big nightmare.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to flip Havelid elsewhere either. We've already got an equivalent in Alberts. Havelid should at least land a mid level pick.

I'd strongly consider this deal. Niitty's going to be a UFA anyways and Upshall will be an RFA and you can bet they'll both want raises. With this deal, the Flyers have secured a potential goaltender for the future and they've cleared up cap space and freed up a spot for someone in the minors to come in. I like it.
