GDT: saturday night fever, Montreal at Los Angeles

vs

Montreal Canadiens (35-26-6-2) VS. Los Angeles Kings (25-18-16-7)(8th in the west)

Game Time: 10:00 PM EST, Saturday , March 6th.
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California
TV: Reseaux des Sports
Radio: Ckac AM 730

Will be the first and only Meeting this year: (Montreal ?-?-?-?)
Last season
Mar 8, 2003 - Habs 1, Kings 2(Go to Bottom for details)

Preview:
-From what we've seen in the last 2 games, The Montreal's PK is struggling... Montreal is sitting 7th a couple of points away from the devils
-LA is fighting to keep their Playoff spot and managed to play some hard and inspired games in the last weeks.
Huet, (a fellow co-citizen ! Vive la revolution !!!) is stepping up in replacement of Cechmaneck. What else.... well our new beloved Kovalev is out for a couple of games with a light injury. Dowd stepped up from him against Phoenix and if you think we didn't have enough defensive players... well you can add him as one of our most specialized in that area. Begin and Dowd on the ice are somehow nice to watch adding depth and style to the team. But we do have a lot of guys playing a defensive role... maybe some clean up would be most welcomed.

News and Notes:
. First thing to point out are the kings' injuries... A lot (i feel sorry for you guys).
. Holland, Cechmanek, Barney, Visnovsky, Brown, Palffy, Miller, Allison, Deadmarsh are all missing... and some are missing since the beginning of the season.
. The Kings recently Acquired Nathan dempsey.
. Kovalev is out for a couple of games, expected to be back against the Panthers.
. Dowd surprisingly showed up in the coyotes' game and gave us an impact we were expecting from...let's just say someone else .
. On the road, the Habs' record is (16-15-2-2),and (8-4-2-1) against the western conference.
. Those times, PK is horrible, Theodore, Quintal looked a little tired, Garon should start this game.
. Perreault is doing fine in my opinion on the first 2 lines. Nothing against Dagenais, but i would prefer to see sleepy Perreault on the second line than him when Kovalev's back.

Habs' Rumor of the moment:Witt (and Grier?) to Montreal for Hainsey (and a 2nd/3rd round pick?).(Long term); Other Rumors: Odelein or Luke Richardson.
Kings' Rumor of the moment:Rucinsky, Grier in california sooner or later...()

Recap from last year
-- Almost 10 years after facing each other in the Stanley Cup finals, the Los Angeles Kings and Montreal Canadiens are on the outside looking in.

Both teams are grasping at straws, watching their window of opportunity for a playoff berth shrink with every game. Los Angeles climbed within eight points of a playoff spot in the Western Conference on Saturday night with a 2-1 victory over the Canadiens, who are seven points out in the East.

Ryan Flinn got his first NHL goal, Eric Belanger also scored and Jamie Storr made 27 saves, helping extend Montreal's winless streak to nine games.
Storr came within three-tenths of a second of his 16th career shutout -- and the first ever by the Kings against Montreal in 128 regular-season meetings. Richard Zednik scored his 27th of the season during a goalmouth scramble.

``The end result -- winning and getting two points -- is more important than individual satisfaction,'' Storr said. ``They had some good chances at the end. Zednik didn't have much to shoot at, but he put the puck in.''
``We're at a point where we just have to find the pleasure of playing hockey again,'' said defenseman Patrice Brisebois, the last player left from Montreal's 1993 championship team. ``It's very tense in the locker room. It's not fun to play right now.''
