Trade offer: Markov for Vinny, would you?

I had this discution with friends, and they were not on my side. I personnaly would trade Markov for Vinny.

Why?Its simple. We will never get a centreplayer like that in the next 15 years, while a good quarterback at defence, well we got a few in the last few years and i think its a position we can replace...not easily, but i think, with a player like Vinny as a center, we could move some player like Higgins, Plekanek or someone else to get a decent no.2.3 d-men.

We already have a pretty strong three with Hammer,Gorges,Komisarek and decent 3-5th d-men with Bouillon,Brisebois. Obyrne will improve, and we will for sure see good things of Subban,Webec,Valentenko,Fischer and McDonough.

We got good quality D-men in the last seasons: Schneider,Rivet,Souray,Streit,Brisebois ( in his good years ),Malakhov,Desjardins, but the best center we got since a loooong time ago is Saku. Im not saying that these d-men were better than Markov, but they contribute to our team needs pretty well when they were here.

If it would cost us Markov to get Vinny, i would do it without any hesitation!

And you?

Straight up, value-wise, Montreal would win the trade, and I still wouldn't do it. If any of the d-men you named were ready to fill in now and were anywhere near Markov's level, then sure, but they aren't and our D core would suck tremendously after the trade.

Edit: Forgot to mention, that Vinny's got about 1 million on Markov's contract right now, and Plekanec and Higgins cost about 3 million combined. #2-3 D-man make a little too much to make that scenario available to us.

Markov straight up for Vinny? That is a far cry from the rumoured Markov plus bodies and picks for Vinny.

TB never trades straight up for Markov. I'd do the deal. But it never happens.

On the other hand we have depth at forward and not at D, so a trade for a top D man is not a good fit for the Habs. It almost has to be picks and forwards I think.

Thats my whole problem with the Vinny saga. Sure id LOOVE to get him but hes not what this team needs right now and for Markov?? It would be insane. The needs of this team is on defense. Were maybe a top 2 or two good defensmen away from being serious contenders. Markov is the centerpiece of this defense so it wouldnt make any sense to trade him.

This needs lack in puck movers which is vital in the new NHL. Guys that can carry the puck from the back end, handle the forecheck and mainly give the puck to our very skilled forwards. Offense starts with strong defense, ask the Wings last year, the Ducks of 2 years ago or even the Sens of 2 years ago. We all love Vinny but he shouldnt be the target. Markov should be a Hab for life but right now he needs another partner that can help him carry the load offensively on the back end.

I forgot to say that im not talking about this season. Could be in the off season after the season. Yes trading Markov now would not be wise, but after the season is done....

No I wouldn't do it. Our need is on defense and not forward so swapping those two would make this team worse off. Not to mention the huge cap hit of Vinny and the length of his contract.

Straight up? Yes, in a second. If I were the owner of the team, I'd be thrilled from a marketing standpoint, and revenue as well. Nothing against Markov, but VL Jerseys would outsell a Markov Jersey 300 - 1 in Montreal.

I think we'd be closer to the cup with Markov in the line-up than with Lecavalier but value-wise Montreal wins it.

Vinny is a better player than Marky, but Markov is more important for the Habs succes than Vincent is.

Not a chance in the world.

Markov is one of the biggest pieces of our club right now.. Losing a defenseman leaves us like;

Gorges - Komisarek
Hamrlik - Brisebois
Bouillon - Dandenault
Weber

YIKES!

Burke ain't stupid. As soon as he'd hear about Markov being traded, he'd demand the moon for Kaberle because he knows the Habs won't go anywhere without a puck-moving defenseman. And as of right now, I'm not even sure he'd do Kaberle for Higgins, Plekanec (not exactly his type of player) and a 1st. Kaberle is the hottest trade bait at the moment because of his contract. Jay Bo might be superior (not by much), but he'll want over 6 millions starting this summer. That's a big turn off.

Markov would be easier to replace than Vinny. Everyone but Tampa would do this deal.

That would suck. Our defense would get thinner and we'd lose game after game.

If Montreal deals, it will be for a player that is reasonably cheap and can keep Montreal motivated, also if O'Byrne doesn't step up his game, possibly a 5th or 6th D (Randy Jones?)?

I wouldn't do it straight up unless we managed to simultaneously have another elite D fall out of heaven to replace him on the blue line. The rumors of adding picks and players/prospects to Markov in a Vinny deal is someone's idea of a real bad joke.

I agree. I personnaly think that, value wise, Markov and Vinny worth nearly the same thing, and their value will be different from different point of views , from one side or the other.
