Setoguchi or Ryan?

Which young RW will score more points in his career?

Who would you choose?

Ryan, I think he can do it by himself, however if Seto stays on Thorntons wing for a few years he will pile up the goals.

I'll take the guy who isn't Thornton's new wing-man.

The question was "Which young RW will score more points in his career?"

To that end, I'm not sure how being Joe Thornton's go-to wingman can be a bad thing.

Voted gooch.

It hasn't worked out that well for Cheechoo.

Ryan is a better player on his own...reminds me a lot of Rick Nash. Ryan would do well with a playmaking center but he's very good with the puck is capable creating his own chances and drive to the net with authority. He's got tremendous hands as well.

Setoguchi is pretty much Cheechoo v2.0...good goal scorer but not an exceptional player overall. He's as much a product of Thornton being a great center as it is about his ability to score goals.

Setoguchi right now seems like he could have a better career. I like the way he plays and if he plays with Thornton he will have 30 goals a year. The Ducks just really have Getzlaf that could set up Ryan.

Ummm...Getzlaf (along with Datsyuk) leads the West in points at this point in time and he will get much better as time goes along. As much as I like Seto, got to go with Ryan on this one.

Love both.

Seto is much better overall and a better all around player, but if we are talking about who will score more points, give me Ryan.

But Ryan does play with Getz and Perry on the powerplay does he not?

Just looking over his last five points, one of Getz or Perry was in on three of the five scoring plays, two being power play goals for Ryan.

For those stat watchers who haven't seen Ryan play, you might as well remove yourselves from the discussion, because this kid can create all on his own and he can also finish off plays created by other players as well. You wouldn't say Heatley is a product of Spezza, would you? However, obviously since they're both highly skilled players they compliment each other well. The same goes for Bobby and Getzlaf/whoever else. I haven't seen much of Setoguchi, so I won't comment on him too much. However, if you think Getzlaf, Perry, or anyone else is the reason for Ryan's production you're off base and need to catch some Ducks games.

What I will say is that Bobby is just scratching the surface of his talent. He's still growing into his body, adding muscle and learning strength training. He's also committing himself more and more to playing a more well-rounded game and learning how to use his size to dominate. It's hard to really make a comparison, as similar players like John LeClair didn't have the grace, stick handling, and/or playmaking, but Ryan has the body type to fill out with another 10 lbs of muscle at least and he'll be unstoppable down low once he does.

Like I said, I haven't seen much of Setoguchi, but from what I've seen, Ryan is a much more unique player and it's rare to find a power forward with the skill that he has. Setoguchi would have to be a pretty special player to be better than Bobby.
