Joe Finally gets seniority to wear #19 for the all star game......

And decides to let Toews have it

What A classy captain of the western all stars we have

******Of the three Sharks playing, only Dan Boyle retains his regular season sweater number, 22. Patrick Marleau will be No. 10 as Jarome Iginla has a seniority claim on No. 12. And though Joe Thornton has seniority on the player who will wear No. 19 on the West, Jonathan Toews, Joe preferred to go with the sweater number heís always worn in All-Star games, 97 ó the year he was drafted.

you know, ducks fans are still complaining about Joe doesn't deserve "C" in ASG. An act like this proves that he does...

I didn't realize any one actually gave a damn about who gets the "C" for the ASG.

I sense a rivalry of Geno vs Ovie type proportions between Big Joe and Jon Toe.

I'm wondering, Joe did get the 19 with seniority but after that, doesn't Shane Doan have seniority after that? Maybe he gave his 19 to Toews as well.

Not sure how that would work.

perhaps Joe, having the seniority to wear that number, gets to decide what is done with it. So then he decides to trade it directly to Toews.

Possibly. Still a great move to give it to the young one.

I am pretty sure that they said on the CBC broadcast that the players voted in as starters get to wear their number... So the Merc blog is wrong. Neither Joe nor Doan gave the 19 to the other JT

I should have known better then to trust the Merc and Tim Krockofcrapi aka kawakami et al.

however, the other JT did say in an interview on NHL live that he enjoyed hanging out with Jumbo Joe.

I'm sure that's true, but from what I've seen from Toews, he more then likely asked both Thornton and Doan if either of them wanted it. Komisarik (sp) let Ovechkin wear #8.

To be honest, I really don't see the big deal with whatever number is on the back of your jersey. And in a game like this, why not let all three guys wear number 19?

Too confusing for the broadcasters?

I still like the idea of the teams sporting their actual jerseys with maybe special shoulder patches or something.
