Even Matheson is reporting this and he's more credible for things:

That doesn't seem to be reporting anything, just speculating Lowe might inquire about Vinny and what it might take to land him.

will not happen.

I cannot see Kevin Lowe trading in the farm to get Vinny here. Does not make sense cashing in the farm to bring in an aging, expensive star when there are 3 to 5 potentially above averge stars on the Oilers team

It does make sense when there's a fire under your ass to do something right away because the fans patience is running out. We've been rebuilding for like a decade now.

Besides, Lecavalier is only 29 and in his prime years. That's aging?

Everybody's aging, I suppose. Vinny's in his prime though.

Without a doubt, Matheson is one of the most credible journalists going. Maybe there is something there. Matheson's conjecture of the Bolt's asking price and Garrioch's are both off a bit, as it will probably be something in the middle.

My guess,

Gagner, Nilsson, Gilbert, Petry, 1st 09 and conditional 1st in '11 if we win the cup or Lecav wins the Hart.

I would do this in a second to finally have someone to finish plays for Hemmer.

Someone posted an interesting observation in one of the Edmonton threads.

If it is a 8+ player swap, you can be guaranteed that the assets that are going to Tampa are not high caliber players.

IF this trade was going to happen, this is what it would like:

Either Ganger/ Cogliano, Penner/ Pouliot, Schremp, Horrcoff, that goaltender we got from Pitts (I am bad at names, remembering and spelling) Some draft picks

For Lecavelier and someone else..

But like I said before, this will not happen.

*cough* Dan Boyle *cough*

They'll do what they have to do, player wishes or no. Maybe they'll be more sensitive with Lecavalier, but I doubt it.

In terms of prospects, as a couple have pointed in proposals, I think Linus Omark would be a shoe-in to be going back the other way. He's a linemate of Lightning prospect Johan Harju in Sweden, and they play incredibly well with each other.

The whole idea of the deal is cutting salary for TBay. Your proposal would have them pick up an additional 5+ mil (assuming Grebs re-signs in the 3+ ballpark). Though the 5mil would be spread over 2 additional players, thats not really considered a cut.

I also thought earlier in the year the Bolts had roster issues, so it may have to be equal amount of roster players. Thus, from my original suggestion, subtract Nilsson, add Schremp and Nash, and add Halpern to their side. So....

Gagner, Gilbert, Petry, Schremp, Nash, 1st 09, cond 1st ('11)
(Total cap hit of 5.625)

for

Vinny, Jeff Halpern
(total cap hit of 8.875 this year, +1 mil next year when Vinny's new deal kicks in. Halpern on the books for 2 for 1 more year).

what was lawton thinking when he came up with that? sure, the team has won six of the last ten games, but it's still a ridiculously dumb statement.

I'd easily trade:

Gagner
Cogliano
Gilbert
Petry
Omark
1st '09

($6.7M)

for

Lecavalier
Halpern

($8.8M)

Stamkos, Gagner, Cogliano, Malone, Tyrell plus a Duchene/Kane is a terrific young forward core. Add in Gilbert, Meszaros, Ranger (probable), Murphy and Krajicek and you have a good young team that's both cheap and capable of being what the 2003-04 Lightning were in three or four years.

The only reason this rumor has any credibility to me is because I know Katz is trying his hardest to land a star player. He tried last year with Hossa and in my mind it's only a matter of time before he gets what he wants.

I am only worried about what is going the other way. Prospects and picks don't bother me too much, but Gagner/Cogliano/Horcoff etc makes me reluctant. I know the trade will demand it though.

This is all cute and everything............BUT Kevin Lowe is no longer the GM of Edmonton,He steped into the presidents role and Steve Tambellini is now the GM. For those talking about Kevin Lowe. Carry on.

Yeah, cuz a GM is definitely more powerful than a president. And a president has no responsibilities but to find a nice intern to wet his cigar for him

Don't do it Lowebellini, that's way too much to give up for one player.

If I'm Tampa, I do this trade and I run.

As great as LeCavalier is...they have the chance to acquire some actual quality depth that will hopefully be accompanied with a breakout year from Stamkos and some quality production from whoever they draft this year down the line.

Then they can get rid of all of the non-quality depth...

I love it! We should add this to the Oiler fan lexicon to save time when talking about management...

Lowebellini or Tambelowe?

If you watched the first 15 games of this year, and then the last 14 or 15, you would know exactly what he meant by it and there is a BIG, BIG difference.
