A seller needs not only the willingness to deal, but the numerous valuable assets that teams are going to want for a stretch run. St. Louis might qualify here.

Some teams will have the willingness, but the demand for those teams' assets may or may not exist.

On the buyer side? Well, the willingness may be there, but they may not have the cap space to swing deals. Most of the time, sellers are not especially eager to take on salary dumps unless they are outright UFAs. Dumps where there are years remaining on deals are not likely to happen.

The only sellers that really have solid UFAs that they would be willing to part with are the Blues, Leafs, and Islanders. While there would be other teams looking to trade, they don't have UFAs that could be difference makers.

Toronto and Florida are expected to be sellers.
As for the buyers, they could be found in almost any playoff-bound team.

idk about that.
sure, they're a borderline playoff team, but therein lies the keyword; borderline.
they can make a run, or sell their assets and have themselves set for a few years.

...or they can sit tight and let their prospects develop, and maybe add a piece or two if they feel really confident it'll help. Y'know, like the Jackets were planning on doing last year before He Who Shall Not Be Named backstabbed us.

leafs, phx, st louis, and florida are no doubt sellers even ottawa if they keep working hard to loose.. buyers would be van, cal, philly, chicago and washington.. these r the top 5 for both categories.. i think tampa mite be surprisingly in the seller market and fruits and vegetables mite be really expensive in that part of the town..

I think Boston will be very, very busy on the Phones, but I don't think much gets done. Columbus as well could be very busy trying to add a good piece.

I can just guarantee now that Philly will be a buyer. We always are if we're in it.

You got a 1st + a 4th (09) for a guy who wanted out of town, I'd be pretty happy with that.

It depends how you define busiest. Burke will be the busiest on the phone of the sellers, but may not do the most deals. He will insist on an overpayment for each of his guys.

I think the Isles and Blues send the most players to other teams.

I expect the Flyers , Rangers and Hawks to be the busiest buyers.

yes, but this is HFBoards.
and once a single J-Bo proposal was made, it was J-Bo mania.

Yep! The fourth-rounder for El Capitan and the first for agreeing not to file tampering charges. And not only that, we also got a nice sixth overall pick as a consolation prize after El Capitan took his toys and ran home. Such a deal!

But this has already been debated and established, so let's move on. The CBJ aren't likely to be big buyers, but we do have some depth needs. Especially at center - Williams helped, but we need more. So Antropov and/or Vermette aren't necessarily being ignored quite yet.
