No bona fide HOF players on the 2008-09 roster

Perhaps some hopefuls but really no clear bona fide first ballot HOF stars on this years NY Rangers.

Do you know how far back you have to reach the last time a NY Ranger Roster had no Super Stars HOF on the roster?

Of course we havent reached the deadline yet

:cough: Forsberg :cough:

Don't we have the youngest team, or one of the youngest teams in the league? Can't expect to have many HOF's yet.

We do have 2-3 potential HoF's but it's WAY too early to know that. Maybe in 10 more years we'll have a better picture.

Well if we are going down that path - I'd say we have a few.

Lundqvist
Marc Staal
Chris Drury (maybe not for his Rangers contributions)
Scott Gomez (ditto Drury)

Some of those guys have a statistical chance to make the Hall, but none, to date, are standout Bona Fide HOF players.

I'm talking Jagr, Shanahan, Messier, Gretzky, Leetch, Dionne, Esposito

In that case, No. We don't.

But if you look back at this team 10 years from now you might as well say Staal & the King!

I'm sure thats what Sather was thinking when they failed to secure the talents of an Elite forward for this season.

If you put it that way, not many teams have one. Maybe 15 teams do?

Yes but we're talking the NEW YORK RANGERS...

Do you know when was the last season the Rangers iced a team without a serious HOF in the locker room?

Chris Drury does not have the stats to get in the HHOF, unless he goes crazy and scores 50 goals every season until he retires. Look at the other forwards who have recently been elected to the HHOF: Glenn Anderson, Ron Francis, Messier. Drury doen't even hold a candle to these guys.

Gomez may have a better chance to get in the HHOF because he was the first Latin-American player in the NHL. Other than that, his stats are pretty unimpressive.

Maybe Lundqvist when all is said and done, but I seriously doubt any of the other three ever sniff the HOF. I suppose Marc Staal could make a case for himself if he continues to progress, but Drury and Gomez...no.

You're also an east coast hockey fan that, not to generalize but, you probably didn't get to really see much of Naslund in his prime. I know I didn't.

I'm surprised there's so much doubt about Lundqvist, in my mind as long as he stays healthy he's definitely going to the HOF, maybe not 1st ballot but he'll get in.

Drury:
- 758GP, 233G/320A for 553pts, career 0.73PPG
- 1 Stanley Cup
- Hobey Baker trophy
- Calder trophy, all-rookie team
- Olympic Silver medal 2002
- WC Bronze 2004
- Zero All-Star game selections
- Zero Post-Season All-Star 1st or 2nd team selections
- Zero top 25 scoring finishes
- One top 25 goals finishes (06-07: 14th with 37)

Gomez:
- 672GP, 141G/411A for 552pts, career 0.82PPG
- 2 Stanley Cups
- Calder trophy, all-rookie team
- WC Bronze 2004
- 1 All-Star game selection
- Zero Post-Season All-Star 1st or 2nd team selections
- Two top 25 scoring finishes (03-04: 20th with 70, 05-06: 23rd with 84)
- Zero top 25 goals finishes

Both players may be hard-pressed to reach 1000 career points looking at their current ages and production rates. These don't strike me as career arcs heading for the HHOF.

But there is that doubt, especially considering he has only been in the league a few seasons. He'll have to play at a high level for many seasons to come, and that's no guarantee for a goalie.

Oh come on! You really think the NHL wouldn't let mr "Captain Clutch" into the Hall? Mr SI all star cover? Hes going in unless he falls completely off the map. Hes a media darling and a prime example of an NHLER in the NHL's eyes. Hes getting in.

The Hall of Fame is for immortals, not average players.
