How much does he have left in the tank and what has he been doing since his last NHL game?

Edit: It's been answered on the FAN590 right now. He hasn't been playing at all in Europe.

eh... if it's insurance it's bad insurance. Johansson's a good player for sure, but if he hasn't been playing at all...

what a waste of a roster spot and money... the Leafs have quite a few 7th defencemen.. why add another

he has been scouting players and is a hockey commentator for Canal + (the cable channel that broadcasts NHL and SEL games here in Sweden).

I wonder if he can get in shape in time for the playoffs, I believe he is scheduled to commentate a SEL playoff game this evening.. hmmm

He was clearly brought over to make Steen's transition to the NHL easier...

Sort of like his Butler ..

I would think Calle's still in good shape, I'm sure he still works out all the time, otherwise, why would he bother coming over. It burns my ass that he came back for the freakin' Leafs though, and not for the caps earlier this season. This will help the leafs quite a bit I think.

Great sign by the Leafs. The destruction in Washington begins with the departure of Johansson. The season before when Johansson is hurt, the Caps were in deep trouble. Pairing him with Klee you'll have the Washington wall.. Oops.. did I mention Gonchar? With the signing of Johansson Leafs is a real contender. The sign is more significant than most of you have thought.

I just hope he's still as good as he once was but I'm expecting him to be nothing more then an injury insurance guy.

unless of course this makes Berg or Pilar now available to be traded then by all means go for it!

Hey Predatore

I just find it strange that Toronto could not have gooten in touch with Calle a few months a go and talk about a come back and then it would have been a great opportunity for Johansson to get prepared ..

Great no-risk move by the Leafs that could pay off tremendously. All it costs them is the price of a contract. There's plenty of time to get Calle back into game shape and it has zero impact on the roster limit as that also expires at 3pm today.

Johansson is washed up.

He got benched (justifiably) in game 6 and OT of the Tampa series last year in favor of going with Kiwi and Doig!!

True the Caps coach had no clue but in this instance he was right!

Calle has lost 2 steps. He was never really physical to begin with but at least he could pin players along the boards when he was younger.

Last couple years all he does is wave at the puck. He turned into a slower version of Phil Housley!!

I'd take Kwiakowski over him right now (not to mention that he hasnt played in a game all season).

I find it hard to believe he'd bump out guys like Berg and Pilar. In fact if I were toronto I'd call up a minor leaguer instead of using Calle.

Once a fine player but now he's WAY OUT OF GAS!

Puzzling move...

He's 37, and since you asked

McCabe, Kaberle, Pilar, Berg are all under 30

according to TSN... Canucks & Leafs have asked Ron Francis to waive his no-trade clause... if he does, a trade will happen.

Calle Johanson siging happened becuase they think the Sean Hill deal fell through. Sean Hill wants 1/2 a mill paid to him just for waiving his no trade clause and more years added on to his contract by the team that takes him.

Wow, that is news. NJ willing to pay out and Leafs acting poor.

Been listening to the FAN590. Johansson didn't know he was making a comeback until the Leafs contacted him last Saturday. He's been skating since last Sat.. Johansson has lost some weight and is in pretty good shape, but it'll take him a while to get back in game shape.

Edit: Jeff Rimmer (sp?) & John Davidson are on right now.
