Slats still has two main chips to play in Greg de Vries and Martin Rucinsky and according to Larry Brooks the Rangers think they are going to do very well in the deals for de Vries and Rucinsky. They did a good job in the Matthew Barnaby deal picking up the Panthers second round pick which the Avs acquired in the Peter Worrell deal. Also,Boris Mironov will probably get moved.

Slats is going to want a young player for DeVives, I can see Clarke giving up Sharp or Seidenberg and a draft pick. Toronto has already stated that they're not giving up young players, the few that they have, so I can't see the Leafs getting DeVives.

Stop being a parrot and provide some insight into your thoughts. It's pretty easy to say that it's a knee jerk reaction, but the fact is that the other deals made by Clarke were well thought out decisions.

Burke ---> Replaces Hackett who couldn't come back
Zhamnov ---> replaces Jr and Primeau who were out. JR is still not back, Preems might be coming back. But with concussions you never know.

Clarke has done well for the Flyers this year. When we got Comrie, we gave away Woywitka. When we traded Comrie, we got Burke, Radio and Eager. Getting Markov was probably the best deal along with Zhamnov. Radio is about the same type of player Williams is but bigger. We get Malakhov from the Rangers and they get Kozak and a pick. We trade Therien and get two picks in the 2005 draft. If Clarke gets DeVries, I can see Somik getting traded, not Sharp. He gets this deal done and we are set.

Players we lost
Justin Williams
Eric Weinrich
Chris Therien
Jeff Woywitka
Mike Comrie (sort of)

Players we have gained
Sean Burke
Danny Markov
Alexei Zhamnov
Mattias Timander
Vladmir Malakhov
Branko Radio? (sp?)
Maybe Devries

To me, the added players are way better than the ones that are gone.

Of course it looks better the way you have it laid out. You didn't include any picks, you forgot Jim Vandermeer, and you have Devries being acquired for nothing.

I certainly give Clarke credit though for not being afraid to get what he thinks his team needs to succeed. He wants to win and he's not afraid to make the deals necessary to put his team in the position to do so.

Ok, I'll chime in here with a thought on Clarke.

I'm a leaf fan and this is one thing I will say.

Clarke seems to make alot of trades, and it seems that in some he gives up alot to fill his needs. He does fill his needs however. And the one thing that I will say is, despite alot of trades to improve for now, Clarke seems to be able to keep a decent stream of draft picks and future coming along. I really like the way he seems to get his hands on high picks, like Pitkanen for example.

If my GM is able to do something this year at the draft to pick up a quality draft positioo the way Clarke seems to be able to do, then I would be pretty pleased.

So, all in all, I don't think he is doing a bad job at all, in fact the team seems to keep going well, and still haslots of future coming. That is reasonably impressive in my mind.

This year, I have been satisfied with the deals Clarke has made.
With all the freakish injuries we've had, he has made solid trades. Comrie was an ok trade, in the end got us 2 NHL players and 1 prospect that fits into our type of play. With Williams, he was a fan favorite but wasn't producing. We got Markov who is a monster on defense. We got Zhamnov by giving up Vandermeer who wasn't going to be higher than 6th on our depth chart. Zhamnov has paid immediate dividends. Burke is a great guy to have around for Esche as he makes his first trip as the starter into the playoffs. We got rid of the weakest link on defense Therien and got picks in return. He has done very well and with Primeau, Rico and maybe JR coming back, we are set.

Devries isn't going to the Flyers this year at least. Unless this is all part of mucklers great plan.
