Valtteri Filppula

I originally thought Filppula would need to be traded if the Wings wanted to retain Franzen, but now (with the Zetterberg signing) there is even a chance Hossa could be retained if Filppula is traded.

He would not be traded until the off-season, and has 4 more years at $3 million per year on his contract. I think it is a great contract, for a good player with a lot of potential... but the Red Wings can not keep everyone.

From the right team, he might get a second.

This is not an impending free agent we are talking about.

The thought of a salary dump does not seem to be up Ken Holland's alley. If he's traded, I think it will be for something else besides draft picks.

Generally yes, but the only reason the Wings would trade him is to free up space to retain both Hossa and Franzen. Under that scenario the "something" Holland is trading for is Hossa/Franzen. That's the only reason he'd even consider moving Filppula I think.

They want to free up cap space to sign Franzen and Hossa

To low... Most teams would offer a second.

Mid- high 1st

Possibly a very high 2nd.

I personally think the Wings want picks/prospects.

this popped up a couple weeks ago... would Buffalo fans [still] consider a Flip for Stafford deal?
or Flip & Lilja for Stafford (+pick?)

Buffalo values Stafford too highly for that deal this year. But it was offered last year and almost happened. Filp needs to break out to have that value again.

The general stance was

Filppula for Macarthur+ Brennan+- mid/low pick was the most agreeable trade Buffalo/wings fans could come up with.

Ya he is having a regression type year somewhat. But its mostly due to lack of playing time and being used in a defensive role.

I have a feeling Wings scouts and opposing scouts Value him above our lay person value 2nd+mid prospect.

I think personally hes worth a Lower tier Blue Chip prospect or Higher tear mid prospect

and a 2nd give or take.

Sad thing is that the Predators make a good fit with their 12 picks in the 7 rounds and prospects. Nashville needs a forward. Not gonna happen though

You've sparked my interest if you'd take Lilja. Lilja is very important to the wings but frees a fair bit of salary up. An honestly we have the defensemen to spare. We have 8 active defensemen on our roster and two in the AHL who can fill in.

Filppulla + Lilja + 4th for Macarthur+ Brennan+ 2nd

Brennan for llja moves a roster defensemen to the minors for Detroit so thats good.
Filppulla for Mac is a salary dump with some upside to the wings but alot more to Buffalo.

And the 2nd for a 4th gives detroit another decent prospect.

How do Detroit fans think about Daniel Paille?

Maybe he could find his confidence in the red wings system?
Buffalo would still have to add something.

Ok, then a 2nd, rights to Alexander Radulov and Cody Franson. If Radulov comes back, Detroit thows a lower level pick back.

He's an undersized, dime a dozen bottom 6 winger on a bad contract. I dont think he has any value until he develops further. At 24 he's still got a chance.
