Joe Sakic at the deadline

Probably very unlikely he would get moved or even want to get moved, but the avs are in the bottom 10 of the league with no promise in sight due the crappy coaching, poor goaltending and crushing injuries, if Joe didnt want his last seasonto be remembered as the diaster this one has been, and wanted one more shot before retirement, what could he fetch on the open market for contending teams? im sure joe would have to have a list of teams he'd be willing to be traded to, so there'd probably only be 6 max on the list.

He would look great in a habs jersey IMO.

Send him home to Vancouver.

But being realistic, I don't see any chance he's dealt. Sakic retiring in an Avs jersey is probably more important to him than having one more shot at a cup.

My thoughts exactly. I think he wants to stay an Av as long as he's in the NHL.

Not to slam you, but pointless thread. You answered your own question by saying probably not happening (though you could have outright said won't happen). Will retire having only played for 1 franchise... the question is when?

I just thought about something, what if Sakic planned on retiring next year and was already assured the assistant GM job? Would it be considered poor asset management before he even gets the job if he chose not to go somewhere at the deadline?

If he's still hurt, he won't be traded.

I've said it time and time again, he won't be moved unless asked. And if he was asked, I think he would move, only if it was the best for the team.

There's no point in discussing theoretical values for highly improbable situations...

Why not?

Why does everyone get their panties in a bundle about stuff like this? Will it happen? Probably not. But so what? Where's the harm in discussing a hypothetical?

Sakic has a NTC and he won't waive it.

I love the Habs and even I don't want to see Sakic leave Colorado. He IS Colorado and should retire there.

No, I don't think it's insulting. There has been Sakic talk about moving over the years, but at this point it's pretty much dead in the waters. He's not being moved unless he asks for that and has gone on record stating he doesn't want to be traded. He could always change his mind, but until then it's doubtful. Meanwhile I guess it's somewhat interesting to discuss his hypothetical value...but haven't we pretty much seen the market established previously for players of his caliber (albeit injury prone at this age)?

Just found it pointless, but that doesn't mean others would see the same way, of course. It wasn't meant to be an attack on my fellow Avs fan, DRL. Nor do I find it touchy by any means.

this isnt ray bourque here. Sakic has had his share of cups. Like modano, and lehtinen in Dallas, i expect him to retire gracefully where he belongs.

The guy who signed an offer sheet with New York?

People need to chill. It's not like he's being kidnapped. Someone is just asking what return a player in his situation would garner at the deadline.

1. Colorado wouldn't trade Joe Sakic
2. Sakic wouldn't waive his NTC if he was even asked (which he would never be asked anyways)

Theoretically, he'd probably get what Forsberg got from Nashville a few years back.

There have been crazy trades over the history of the NHL, joe has missed most of this season and it could be his last, if ever he would think of a trade this might be the year. I dont think he'd ever play for another team but who knows where his thought process might be right now. one of the reason he wouldnt want to be moved is he'd miss seeing his family for a few months, but since he has been around the house more than normal this year, it wouldnt be as bad as it normally wouldve been.

the writing is on the walls for the Avs being contenders, they made one last push for it last year and their core just keeps getting older, they need to re-tool a little, and the all-time leader in playoff OT goals would be a welcome addition to any serious playoff contender. A package similar to the one philly got from nashville in the forsberg deal would be quite the move for the re-tool.

Joe to the Canucks is no more ******** an idea than Forsberg to the Canucks rumours last year.

Will Joe even be healthy by the trade deadline? I think his injury takes him to about a week or 2 after the deadline. I don't think many teams will trade for an injured player.

All this is moot anyways since it wont happen in a million years.
