Just imagine a series of guys rolling out there with no apparent purpose, shift after shift, with occasional flashes here and there. It doesn't really matter.

Playing against the Leafs usually cures that

Frenchy...just add Tucker to a growing list of players who were brought in to do one thing but becuase of coaching did another thing all-together. Even if he played on the second line he'd never be productive unless he was taking it to the other team...and hard. He could still be useful in that role (and possibly as a second tier PP guy) but for whatever reason he is either not allowed to or is incapable of doing so. Considering the number of physical players brought into the AVs organization over the years and how productive they've been, I feel it is a "not allowed" to situation. They are all expected to be more productive to the AVs score sheet and not simply disruptive to the opposing teams score sheet.

Kono seems to shine as the one guy that was able to add leadership, hard-play and scoring. Lappy does as well, but his big season (offensively) was an anomaly. He's a third/fourth liner with incredible leadership skills and the ability to mentor younger players. He is not really a difference maker though as both Stewart and McLeod seem to have surpassed him in stepping up for other players and in the goal scoring areas.
Totally agree with your comment and i think the best example of what you said is Ruslan Salei . We remember what kind of player he was when he came from Florida and how different he is now . I'm not the only one who saw the difference about him, it's night and day about his physical play .

We lose this game because despite the lack of talent the leafs actually work pretty hard...5-0 Leafs

I know I was blasted for saying we don't deserve a #1 goalie because we have so many other issues at play right now, but I still think this is a real reason why having a #1 goalie won't make that big of a difference. There is little physical play in front of our own net. We've got some youngsters trying to make a difference in front of the other end...but seriously...no one expects Stewart or Jones to be cross-checking d-men and clearing our own crease. Or at least...we shouldn't be expecting that...especially considering our PK issues.

We also have a problem when we've got guys like Salei who has a shot from the point but instead opt to use Wolski on the point. Liles and Clark have also both been seen to use a shot from the point at times but Sakic and any number of forwards have been used there instead. We can't maintain the puck in the offensive zone on the PP because we use forwards who creep down too low. That is what they are trained to do...I'm not blasting Wolski for being along the half-boards..I'm blasting TG for not having a d-man higher up to maintain puck position. If we want to play an Umbrella style PP that is one thing...but then you have to be able to move the puck precisicly and with authority...we seem incapable of doing either but we did seem better off when using d-men who blasted shots from the point. Why not go back to the basics?

Meh..the AVs have worked plenty hard. They just have no leadership or coaching that allows hard work to result in anything other than closely contested losses. Stewart, Hensick, Svatos, Hejduk, Smyth and Wolski have all worked hard. While I understand that a hot goalie or a bounce or two can make a difference in a single game, I can't use that excuse for a losing streak. Fact is most teams we've lost too were better prepared and had a better game plan than we did. Injuries suck but we still hae a wealth of talent and for the most part it is squandered because we still suck on the PP and PK.

As for Wolski. Denver Post has nothing. Rocky Mountain News says:
Well a note on the Raycroft thing, Budaj was suppose to start but TG changed his mind.

Quote:
Globe and Mail Update Tony Granato had a surprise for Andrew Raycroft Thursday afternoon: he will be starting after all in Thursday night's game against Raycroft's former team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Raycroft, who was bought out by the Maple Leafs this summer after a 37-win season in 2006-2007, was expected to be on the bench for the Colorado Avalanche for the 9:30 ET start at Pepsi Center. But Granato changed his mind and informed Raycroft after practice.
Here is the full article if anyone is interested to what Raycroft had to say.

My brain doesn't know what to do.

Common sense tells me the Avs will lose.
But common sense also tells me the Leafs will lose.

I think Raycroft will get his revenge tonight...and by revenge, I mean he's lucky someone signed him to a contract after his awful season last year.

That goal was a direct result of Cumiskey separating his shoulder.

Typical. Even when the Avs come out with a great start and dominate, they still manage to give up the only goal when the other team gets one shot.

That was Cumiskey's man that scored and was wide open in front of the net. Cumiskey slid into the boards and either separated his shoulder or broke his collarbone. There is not much they could do on the first one.

Well, on a weird brightside, if the Avs lose and St. Louis win, they'll only be three points ahead of them (aka last place), plus St. Louis will have two games in hand! Good prospect*, here we come...

Wow, Tucker looks like he's trying tonight.
