Looking at Colorados line up tonight, they are playing 5 centers and 3 right wings, so maybe one of the centers are included with a draft pick going back to the Lanche. This way if the roster player is hurt adjustments can be made.

Just strange that TSN hasn't updated yet. They have been quick on the details all night.

From The Sports Forecaster:

"Lifton plays a mean, physical game from the back end. His penalty minutes rose from 65 in 2001-2002 to 139 last year in the OHL. He needs to work on his skating as he's somewhat vulnerable against speedy wingers to the outside. The Avs will be patient."

Well, Renney has been saying that the Rangers want to build a team that is tough to play against and Lifton could certainly be a part of that.

TSN has learned that the New York Rangers have traded forward Matthew Barnaby and a 3rd round pick in 2004 to the Colorado Avalanche for Chris McAllister, David Lifton and a 2nd round pick. Details to follow.

I bet it has something to do with, the trade doesn't invovle a Canadian team. They have to have some sort "ins" on all the canadian teams.

Not to sound completely stupid, but who is Chris McAllister (i.e. any info on him would be appreciated) ... also, late 2nd (if colorado's vs. NY 3rd) what is that 5 spots??? Hopefully it is Florida's second.

Mcallister is not what we need, i hoped we would get moore from the avs, i guess not. however this points to us moving another d-man most likely de Vries and Mcallister just being a body to fill in similar to josh green

i cant say im disappointed with this trade cause we got a big stay at home d-man prospect and a 2nd round pick, but i thought we could do better

sather follows the trend of good trade followed by bad trade

i don't know about this trade i guess this is the best we can do but.............. McAllister is one of the few players in hockey that makes purinton look good. i really thought we would get a little more for barnaby. but really what the hell do i know

If thats not the Florida 2nd then I'll be really pissed.

Considering the Malakhov deal this won't be close to enough if thats the Col pick. We would have been better off just giving Barnaby an extension.

I thought the trade was fine till I heard Mcallister got added and the Rangers third rounder ... so the question is (as I don't know anything about McAllister) do you trade our third for McAllister???

mcAllister is a huge d-man who really couldnt even crack our top 6 currently. he has all the size in the world but terrible wheels. i remember him being pretty bad for the flyers and this is his 4th team in 5 years, i guess they had to dump a body so we agreed to take him

Preseason projected role McAllister will fill a role as the No. 6 or 7 defenseman on the Avalanche in 2003-04. He may also be a backup enforcer at left wing if need be.

Sather just filled in that weak left side

You have to be kidding me!!!!!!!! Liffton is the 10th ranked prospect on the one team with a worse group of prospects then us!!!

Just when Sather takes a step forward he takes 3 steps back!!!

Heard the deal is Colorado's 2nd (Av's board) ... if McAllister is just a dump, then I feel like we got hosed, as all we did is move up 10 spots (or 3rd to their 2nd won't be more than 10, and may be less) and Liffiton. Seemed like we could get more for Barnaby. Who knows ...

well that means the rucinsky deal should be a good one

im not too pleased by this one at all, no reason for a 3rd or mcallister to be involved

Apparently, it's COL's 2nd rounder, not FLA's, that was sent to the NYR.

Thats what they have been saying on the Av's board, but I haven't seen any confirmation of this anywhere ...

the more i think about this deal the more i hate it but than again if this was the best deal that was out there i'm glad he took it. we moved up from the 3rd round to this second round its 10 spots but than again thats 10 spots. lifton is hit or miss i guess i'm happy we got something for barnaby but i really think we could have got more. this deal really feels wrong to me. perhaps its because barnaby really grew on me the past few years and he like leetch is somebody you build around. as crazy as that sounds. hey i guess we can just resign him

Still can.

Personally I'm not ready to write off a 19 year old kid who is 6'2, 202 and supposedly has a mean streak.

He was their 2nd from 2003, so I guess you can say we got a 2nd and moved up ten spots for Barnaby ... I don't know, it still feels light ... thought he would have gotten us a better return ...
