i think this is the opposite. They get Reitz and send him to HFD so that Potter can come up and be the 7th guy.

Fritsche never got the shot here, so I don't really mind the move.

I remember watching a game between the Wild and Kings. Frolov started pushing Reitz when the Wild goalie froze the puck... shortly after the faceoff Reitz catched Fro along the boards and basically ran him over. He has a physical edge, something we may need goin' on forward. That being said I have no idea on how steady he is...

I bet he may battle for Kalinin's spot?

Reitz is an underrated defenseman who can add depth to any club. He's earned his shot as he has played down in Houston for six seasons where he performed very well. (led the team in points per game last year). The Wild called him up last spring during the playoffs (for Nick Schultz) and he stepped in an played great for us. He's a team guy that won't back down from a scrap. I wish we could have kept him, but the Wild couldn't afford to give him any seasoning time.

Potter's had a rough season and needs the playing time to try to get his feet back under him. Reitz would need to clear waivers to be sent down. I think there is about .001% chance of the scenario you describe happening.

I'm glad we got somthing 4 him, but what was this wackiness all about, why didn't the Wild just pick him up off of Waivers, was somone asleep at the switch over there?

The article in the link is a minesota source & doesn't state that he was on waivers.

Looks like he plays about 8 minutes a night. 7th defenseman at best. Has a decent +/- rating, if that means anything.

I seriously doubt he could replace even Kalinin if the Rangers suffer an injury at defense. But he was basically free, so it is what it is

Potter is the new Bryce Lampman.

Why wouldn't we pick up Exelby instead of this clown?

Sounds to me like a better version of Jason Strudwick, which is fine. If anyone really thought Dan Fritsche was going to get us anything drastic then you need to stop watching hockey. The team needed a 7th d-man. Corey Potter is not a viable option for a 7th spot. He needs playing time. Reitz will be able to step in any time we have a short term injury, someone needs a day off, or Renney feels like switching it up. Maybe a sense of competition will do good.

He some some real time with a Minnesota team that plays tremendous defense, so I'm hopeful that he's capable of replacing a guy like Kalinin should an injury occur.

Fritsche will end up being a good addition for the Wild but for us i think the move is just ok, but at least we have cover on D now.

It just makes me wonder when the real issues will be addressed, if ever

We needed a 7th defenseman. One issue down, many more to go.

Now:

Get a scorer and a puck moving defenseman.

even think that Exelby would cost more than Fritsche? Or maybe Exelby isn't available? Who's the clown?

The Rangers wanted an extra body on defense and they saved some money in the exchange.

Not even close. Kalinin may not be perfect but he is good. has some offensive skill and skating ability.
took Reitz a long time to make the show and only plays limited minutes 7-10

Oh ****, you mean Atlanta was going to take Fritsche for Exelby straight up and we passed? Man, what a fool Sather is.

Reitz is a younger and slightly better version of Strudwick, if you ask me.

Good move. I like him a lot as a 7th d-man.

Its a good move for a number of reasons.

A lateral one where they got something for a guy who was just put on waivers, a little help with the salary cap situation, and they get a d-man with some NHL experience in the process to be the 7th man. Maybe he'll get a shot against the right teams and throw the body around a little bit.

The Ranger have been very fortunate only losing around 12 man games to injury this year (knock on wood), so even if Reitz doesnt play, at least he will be around the room in the form of the 7th man to keep the Kalinins of the world on their toes.

Good move, you werent getting anything out of Fristche anyway and the Rangers have a logjam of those types of forwards in and out of the lineup as it is.

Im happy to see Fristche go to a good team and probably see some time there. Good luck to him.

Yeah he scraps...but with the visor on most of the time.

then again...only averaging ten minutes a game he still was 2nd on the team in hits. that I like to see.

He looked 1-1-3 to me, just needs to lose the visor. Better fighter than Voros and anyone not named Orr on the Rangers. Solid addition as a #6-7.
