He's got a great shot, and knows how to get open, which is a hard skill to teach.

I don't think Lupul is necessarily over-rated, just not what the Leafs need right now.
Yes i agree with your lupul notes but he is over-rated in terms of what he brings vs. his salary !!!!

We don't need lupul in a rebuild !!!!!!

Stefanovich will be ready by 2011 playing on the second line with 2 good second liners....this kid has boatloads of talent and its showing in his growth to want to be an nhl player. his desire and intensity are finally catching up to his skill set !!!!

We do this all the time with our prospects though. Everybody hypes them up, and if they don't dazzle us right away (and they never do) then everybody turns on them just as fast. Stefanovich needs to continue his really good year in the Q, and then parlay that into a good rookie year in the AHL next season. If he can do that he has a shot at getting into the NHL the next year, but thats assuming everything goes right for him. This is why we need more young players, so expectations aren't quite so high on the ones we have.

Mark my words.....Burkie builds a cup contender in 2 years !!!1

If the leafs werent so mismanaged by terrible gms and owners and had cap space.they too could have signed a savard and a chara to efffect an immediate team reconstruction. What i'm trying to say is that it is possible to have a quick turnaround to respectability and possibily to contender status. Our cap space will permit Burkie to build his perfect team !!!!

Wouldn't it be terrible to have two guys who know how to get into "scoring spots" and know how to bury it.

As for the cap issue, you need mid-range guys too. Lupol in my mind replaces Antropov, and the salary will not hurt the Leafs. As you said, if they trade Kabs and Kubs, they have crazy cap space, so having a decent younger forward at $4 000 000 is ok, and of course Burke should know enough about Lupol to know what this kid can bring, so if he is interested in him, I'm ok with that.

Step 1:

Step 4: Antropov won't get you any first round pick. I would think about giving a low 2nd for him.

Step 7: No. You don't wanna go out and break the bank during a rebuild.

Of course he would trade to a division rival. You only stay clear from that when you are expected to be challenging your rivals for playoff spots, and/or might meet them in the playoffs. The Leafs are rebuilding, and a few years away from playoff runs, so trading vets to division rivals is NOT a concern at this stage...

I think my favourite is step six. If only it was that simple.

What world do you live in that Nash signs in Toronto for $6mill/year? And the Sedins for just over $5/year? Why would the Sedins leave Vancouver for a nominal raise when they could easily get more from the Canucks?

I find it hilarious, myself. Gets me hoping that one of their rivals ends up with Antropov.

your right you dont. i forgot that the objective in toronto was to collect as many 1st overall picks as possible in the hopes of building a dynasty. if your looking to rebuild soon and be competitive yes lupul is the kind of player the leafs should be looking at. hes better and younger then the players you have.
