I think ATL wins this one. Lehtonen has been shaky, they have Pavelec waiting in the wings, plus they'd get Deslaurier who has been pretty good.

Schneider and Reasoner's value isn't that high, Grebeshkov alone is worth that much. Throw in Sam Gagner (even Penner) and it's highway robbery. And then a pick?
I'm assuming you're an Oilers fan, you're just hosing yourself.

What in the hell is this.

Lehtonen is not worth half that.

Well the offer may have been a miss, but 2/3rds that return would make sense for the Oilers. Perhaps removing Schneider and Grebeshkov to start, then downgrade the talented roster player or turn into prospects just in or ready to be in the NHL. Reasoner provides someone that can win some faceoffs and be used in just about any situation. And MacT already loves him. Oilers would need Deslauriers to pair a very young duo with Lehtonen as Roloson's UFA and unsure if the Oilers would have the salary to pickup anything better then Deslauriers. Plus, not sure Atlanta would even be looking for a goalie anyhow. Maybe something more like this;

To Edmonton:
Lehtonen, Reasoner

To Atlanta:
3 of Nilsson/Schremp/Brule/Potulny/Stone/Reddox/Wild/Plante/2nd
(well, maybe not a combo including 3 of the first 4 but any other combo would be fine)

Holly cow does Edmonton EVER get their ass handed in this one!

Schneider is worth NOTHING to Edmonton because they're defense is deep. They need a scoring winger or ... like reasoner a guy who can kill penalties!

Lehtonen < JDD. JDD doesn't have an injury history and isn't going RFA at 3,000,000 next year.

If this deal involved getting rid of Penner's contract I'd be up for it... like Penner/2nd rounder for Reasoner/Schneider I'd be cool with it... but giving up Cogs, Cole(which doesn't make sense because he'e UFA next year) or Gagner is a huge overpayment.

No from the oilers point of view

If it involved Nilsson, Brule, Potuly, Reddox and Wild I'd be cool with it. Lehtonen isn't in high demand. He gets injured too much. Reasoner will be UFA next year so he doesn't have much trade value.

Nilson + one of Brule/Potulny/Wild should do if Atlanta just wants to pick up some young 3rd-4th line players.

I've gotta say though, I'd be overjoyed if Edmonton got rid of Penner and only got something like Reasoner in return.

What about

To Atlanta:
Dustin Penner - 4.25mill till end of 2011-12 season
Denis Grebeshkov - 1.5 mill(RFA next year) 1.5 mill
2nd rounder

To Edmonton:
Marty Reasoner(UFA next year) 1.2 mill
Niclas Havelid(UFA NEXT YEAR) 2.7 mill

Atlanta definitely gets an upgrade on the right wing and a rising defenseman who currently doesn't look out of place playing 2nd pairing. I think both are something Atlanta would make good use off and Grebs won't cost too much at 3 mill next year considering their cap situation compared to other teams.

In return Edmonton gets Reasoner, which'll force Edmonton to put Cogliano on the 2nd line. (AHHH! YEAH!!! WOOT WOOOOOOOOT!)

Cogliano-Horcoff-Hemsky
Nilson-Gagner-Cole
Moreau-Reasoner-Pisani(when healthy)/Pouliot
Pouliot(when Pisani comes back)Stortini-Brodziak-Stortini(when Pisani comes back)/Big-Mac

Souray-Gilbert
Visnovsky-Havlid
Smid-Stiaos

Works for me!

Well, I had two Oiler motives for making this deal; getting a legit #1 goaltender that you could build your team around and an improvement heading into the home stretch and getting some expiring UFA contracts to have freed up cap space for spending in the summer.

If MacT is still coaching, then I say there's little to no chance that J.D.D. is our starter next season.

JDD has been solid in the few games he's played. He doesn't have a reputation for being injured or inconsistent all the time, either. He's CHEAP too. While Lehtonen is the opposite of all the good things I just mentioned about JDD.

Sure JDD isn't likely ready to be a starter, but he's got a lot more going for him these days.
