That little upgrade also isn't worth the price. Conroy only makes $1.1M compared to Stoll at $3.6M.

Like I referenced before, you can't put a price on a stanley cup.

no it doesn't come cheap... but to win a Stanley Cup under the salary cap you need to have some players who are 'steals'... adding a borderline 2nd line center for 3.6 million is just the opposite of that philosophy... especially since Stoll still has years left on his contract... if he was a pending UFA perhaps I would consider him an option

because having Stoll means a for sure cup win... that's why his fingers are full of cup rings

I'm not trying to start an argument here and I'm definitely not going to be pushing Stoll on you but how are you or any team for that matter going to find "steals" during a playoff run?

If anything, more often than not, you have to overpay to land a player imo.

You're taking me too seriously. Although, I think Stoll's a good pickup for you guys, he's far from being the only missing piece.

No Stoll is not a good pickup for the Flames... because of Salary Cap implications... Stoll alone would handcuff the Flames and likely cost them Cammalleri on July 1st... as good as the Flames are doing right now they need to ensure they are competitive for more than just this year

Well then theres no point in moving players and taking on salary for a playoff run, isn't there?

Deadline deals are costly, disruptive to team chemistry (unless you need a shakeup), and can lose you some of your future to hedge on the present.

That's why the only 2 deals a smart GM should table or accept are a) lateral moves (D to D-starved team, C to C-starved team), or b) steals, which aren't exactly dime-a-dozen

Personally I would pass for a couple reasons... 1) We already have a log jam at center and this would only make it worse... 2) Staal's new contract is not cap friendly... especially for Calgary

Not really...

I can't see Sutter making a huge splash at the deadline. Maybe a depth forward or defenseman. That's about it.
